Toyota recall overview:

  • Who: Toyota is recalling approximately 82,000 vehicles, including certain 2024-2025 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus GX models.
  • Why: The recall is due to a software issue causing instrument clusters to fail during startup.
  • Where: The Toyota recall is active in the United States.

Toyota is recalling approximately 82,000 vehicles in the United States due to a software glitch affecting digital instrument clusters. This issue, which can cause parts of the display to remain blank, prevents drivers from seeing essential warnings and safety indicators.

The recall, announced on May 27, affects certain 2024 and 2025 model-year Toyota and Lexus vehicles equipped with a 12.3-inch digital display. The specific models include the Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Mirai, Lexus GX and Lexus UX. Not all versions of these models are affected; only those with the larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster are included in the recall.

According to Toyota, the problem can be resolved with a software update, which highlights the growing reliance on software for critical vehicle functions.

“Continued driving with these warnings not displayed could delay the driver taking an appropriate action and increase the risk of a crash or injury,” the Toyota recall says.

This issue is particularly concerning as it involves the failure to display critical information, such as engine coolant temperature and electric charge, which are necessary for compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Recall: Toyota to implement software update

This recall is not Toyota’s first encounter with digital display issues. In 2025, the company recalled more than 590,000 vehicles for similar problems with 12.3-inch digital displays.

Although Toyota has not confirmed a direct connection between the two recalls, both involve software defects that prevent crucial information from appearing on the instrument cluster.

To address the issue, Toyota will update the combination meter software free of charge. The company plans to send notification letters to affected owners by late July 2026.

For more information about the recall, consumers can contact Toyota’s customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Alternatively, drivers can also look up their vehicle identity numbers on the NHTSA recall page and also on the Toyota website.

Toyota says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
