Tennessee plaintiff Suzann Goble filed a Xarelto lawsuit against pharmaceutical giants Bayer and Janssen Pharmaceuticals for allegedly causing her mother’s death. Goble claims that as a direct result of ingesting the blood-thinner Xarelto, her mother developed uncontrollable internal bleeding injuries that ultimately took her life.
Goble’s mother, Emily Pigg, had been prescribed Xarelto by her physician in order to treat her atrial fibrillation, she explains in her Xarelto uncontrollable bleeding lawsuit.
The medication was started in October 2013 and finished several months later in December 2013. A month before ending the prescription, the decedent allegedly suffered two life-threatening bleeding injuries, which caused permanent damage.
Pigg was unable to fully recover from these injuries, which ultimately led to her death on March 17. Despite intense medical intervention, doctors were unable to save her from her bleeding injuries.
Goble states that her mother followed all prescription instructions, as well as the advice of her doctor.
Goble is filing this Xarelto lawsuit against Janssen and Bayer because her mother had allegedly not received sufficient warning. The warning label reportedly did not warn against uncontrollable bleeding, nor did it mention that Xarelto had no remedy to stop the bleeding. Additionally, the defendants reportedly made no effort to notify the decedent or her physicians about the adverse Xarelto side effects.
Goble insists that her mother never would have taken Xarelto if she had known about the Xarelto bleeding side effects. Furthermore, Goble’s lawyers state that the defendants had the civil responsibility of warning Pigg and the general public of such dangerous Xarelto side effects, because they are relying on the accuracy of the given information.
For being responsible for manufacturing, selling, distributing, and marketing an allegedly dangerous drug, Goble is suing Bayer and Janssen Pharmaceuticals. The charges include negligence, false advertising, concealing information, and misrepresenting a product.
This Xarelto Lawsuit is Suzann Goble v. Janssen Pharmaceuticals and Bayer Pharmaceuticals, Case No. 1:14-cv-06494, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
Overview of Xarelto Complications
Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) is a recently approved anticoagulant, which joined the blood-thinner market after Pradaxa. It was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2011 to prevent blood clots from forming after surgery, and to be used to prevent strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation. It was released in a collaborative effort between Bayer Pharmaceuticals and Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary, Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
Similar to its predecessors Warfarin and Pradaxa, Xarelto was thought to be an optimal preventive measure against blood clot injuries in high risk patients. Unfortunately, one similarity Xarelto shares with Pradaxa is that it has no reversal agent in the case of uncontrollable bleeding.
Along with Pradaxa, Xarelto is ranked as one of the most dangerous drugs in America, based on the number of adverse event reports submitted to the FDA. In 2012, out of the 1,734 anticoagulant injury reports submitted to the agency, 121 were Xarelto cases.
Hundreds of Xarelto lawsuits are being filed across the United States by patients who allegedly suffered from severe uncontrollable bleeding injuries. Bayer and Janssen have been repeatedly criticized for the danger of their products, and for misrepresenting how often bleeding injuries were occurring among patients.
