  • Attorneys are actively investigating potential false advertising claims involving GLP-1 supplements.

What are GLP-1 supplements and how are they marketed?

GLP-1 is a hormone naturally produced by the body that helps regulate blood sugar and appetite. Prescription medications work by mimicking the effects of this hormone and have become popular for their role in weight loss.

As these prescription medications have grown in popularity, supplement companies have introduced over-the-counter products that are marketed as GLP-1 alternatives or nutraceuticals. These weight loss supplements are often advertised as helping consumers reduce their appetite, lose weight or achieve results similar to prescription GLP-1 medications.

However, GLP-1 supplements are not the same as prescription GLP-1 medications. Attorneys are investigating whether companies have misled consumers by suggesting their products can deliver comparable weight loss and appetite suppression benefits.

Why California consumers may have a claim

California has some of the strongest consumer protection laws in the country. California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act and Unfair Competition Law protect consumers against certain false or misleading advertising practices. These laws may allow consumers who purchased products based on deceptive marketing claims to pursue legal action.

These protections also apply when companies allegedly make misleading claims about the benefits of dietary supplements.

Attorneys are investigating whether some supplement companies that market GLP-1 weight loss supplements as an appetite suppressant or GLP-1 alternative have misled consumers about their effectiveness.

California residents who purchased these weight loss supplements based on potentially misleading advertising may qualify to pursue legal action.
