Samsung TV Defect Class Action Lawsuit

By Kimberly Mirando

SamsungA class action lawsuit filed in Superior Court claims that Samsung plasma, liquid crystal display and digital TVs have defective capacitors that cause the TVs to prematurely fail.

According to the Samsung TV class action lawsuit, “The Televisions are defectively designed and/or use defective materials because normal operation and usage of the Televisions exposes the capacitors…to excessive heat and/or excessive voltage, which, in turn, causes the capacitors to fail.”

As a result, Samsung TVs fail before their expected useful life has expired.

The Samsung TV class action lawsuit further charges the company with knowing about the design defect but failing to recall the Televisions to fix the problem, and refusing to pay for labor or diagnostic expenses for consumers who’s TVs manifested the defect more than a year after purchase. As a result, consumers “have paid and continue to incur substantial parts and labor fees to repair their defectively designed Televisions,” the class action lawsuit states.

The Samsung TV class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all consumers who purchased a Samsung TV in California from January 1, 2006 to the present. It is seeking restitution, damages and other relief for violation of the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, breach of warranty, and violation of the Unfair Competition Law.

I have Samsung PN64F8500 purchased 4-7-2013 Pauls TV # 105, 101 Technology Dr., Irvine, CA 92618 The company is no longer in business. I have had a problem turning on the TV and reported this to Samsung and was told the repair would be over $2,000.00. The report was filed 11-23-2015 at 2:15 PM customer service Miguel case #4133236933. The TV is now dead. I paid $3,497.99 plus tax…This is an outrage that Samsung was aware of this problem and did not recall all of the defective TVs. Do I have any recourse? Can I Join a class action lawsuit.

I have a 50 Samsung we purchased May 2014. At the power light it burned and melted. We took the power cord off. At the power button it turned into a yellow half moon above it and screen turned black. We had a 4 year warranty through Square trade, they keep asking stupid questions saying was it near a fireplace or did I use some kind of cleaner on screen to cause it to burn or warp. Still in process, today called Samsung. Please include me in lawsuit.

Purchased a new pn60e7000 Plasma TV in 2012 after 3 years turns off power light flashes makes clicking noise call Samsung they told me sorry had a repairman come out coast me $85 to tell me he wasn’t sure what board had problems he called Samsung Tech support was told it was the X board replaced it for $490 TV still will not power up clicking and flashing power light. Researched the problem and found hundreds with the same issue. I want to be part of the suit. I firmly believe that the issue on mine is the power board. I will never purchase another Samsung and will be replacing my other three Samsungs ASAP

  6. Lori Anderson says:

Purchased a 32″ LED HD Samsung TV in August 2012, and have developed the on off cycling problem. My husband believes it is the inferior capacitors in the power supply. Called h h Gregg as we have purchased numerous TV’s from them and was told to call corporate – corporate said they could send someone out to repair at a cost, then called Samsung told them was aware of the class action suit covering 2008, but ours is experiencing same problem, again told they would send someone out at a cost. Whatever happened to TV’s that last 25 to 30 years.

  7. Eric Perez says:

Same issues as everyone else… Samsung refuses to take responsibility. Unacceptable. Unfortunately I do not where to go from here… Please help!

in 2012 I purchased a 47′ led Samsung television. I started having on/off problems 6 months ago. now it won’t turn on at all. I called a local t.v. repair shop and they told me about this capacitor problem for the
last couple of years. they also told me that it’s probably not just the capacitors. the whole mother board
is what needs to be replaced. I’m very mad about this. I need some info on these lawsuits etc. someone
please respond and guide me in right direction……..

  9. Maria Larocque says:

I have the Samsung SMART TV UN46ES7500. The problems started within 6 months. I was out of town for several months and now out of warranty. I know the last time I checked I still had warranty on the set until 9/14. but now it says it’s out of warranty. This is the most expensive home entertainment item I have ever bought for my self. Now I spend all my time in the bedroom to watch television and don’t get as many projects done.

It is unbelievable to me that a National Recall hasn’t been ordered for all these television sets having the same problems since 2006. And in that time the price for the TV’s has basically doubled. I haven’t even used any of the SMART features yet. It’s only been used for satellite TV and DVD’s. What else should we be doing to get some action?
