Samsung TV Defect Class Action Lawsuit

By Kimberly Mirando

SamsungA class action lawsuit filed in Superior Court claims that Samsung plasma, liquid crystal display and digital TVs have defective capacitors that cause the TVs to prematurely fail.

According to the Samsung TV class action lawsuit, “The Televisions are defectively designed and/or use defective materials because normal operation and usage of the Televisions exposes the capacitors…to excessive heat and/or excessive voltage, which, in turn, causes the capacitors to fail.”

As a result, Samsung TVs fail before their expected useful life has expired.

The Samsung TV class action lawsuit further charges the company with knowing about the design defect but failing to recall the Televisions to fix the problem, and refusing to pay for labor or diagnostic expenses for consumers who’s TVs manifested the defect more than a year after purchase. As a result, consumers “have paid and continue to incur substantial parts and labor fees to repair their defectively designed Televisions,” the class action lawsuit states.

The Samsung TV class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all consumers who purchased a Samsung TV in California from January 1, 2006 to the present. It is seeking restitution, damages and other relief for violation of the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, breach of warranty, and violation of the Unfair Competition Law.

Oh…Can I not join the suit since I live in Indiana! Our Plasma is a FPT5084x/xaa. I have been reading many complaints and fixes for it online. The same issues as their LCD’s are having this year. I called and they said that only the LCD’s are being fixed. The problem doesn’t exist with the Plasmas….yeah right …they need to take a look at Youtube!

Our 50″ Plasma started clicking two days ago. Now all we get is a blicking light on the power button with just a faint clicking noise if you are close to it. I believe after reading all the complaints that Samsung needs to be responsible for putting faulty parts in their TVs! I will never buy Samsung again!

My 40 inch samsung lcd tv now makes a clicking sound every time I power it on and it takes approx. six minutes before it fully powers up and is useable. It is very annoying, please let me know how I can become part of this law suit.

Bought a 40″ “LCD in 2008. Also purchased extended 3 year warranty on Amazon site along with TV. Sure enough the unit failed in 2011 and had to have 2 capacitors replaced. Unit has now completely failed post warranty, due to design malfeasance. Arrogant Korean company that has no respect for US Law or US Citizaen. Can go straight to hell as soon as I get reimbursed for the cost of the crap TV and extended warranty. No more Samsung products for me. Sell that shit somewhere else world. Hey maybe China your friend? We defend their sorry Southern asses from the North and they still can’t do the right thing for all the money we pour into their sorry peninsula. Take US Tax dollar but no likey Americans.

I have the same problem as I now know so many people have with my TV not turning on. When I talked to a Samsung rep. he never mentioned that he knew what the problem was, just to try turning the TV off and try again. I would like to be a part of this class action lawsuit.
