(Jan 26, 2022)
Nissan is recalling almost 689,000 Rogue SUVs from July 25, 2013 and Dec. 31, 2016 model years, due to fire risk, according to Consumer Reports. The vehicles may also experience other electrical issues, including nonworking power windows and seats, and/or a prematurely drained battery.
The issues are caused by a poorly insulated electrical connector located in the driver’s footwell, Consumer Reports says. Water and salt may accumulate in this area, causing corrosion that may result in electrical failures or even a fire. Warning signs of this defect include power window or seat failure, an illuminated all-wheel-drive warning light, a burning odor or smoke coming from underneath the dashboard on the driver’s side.
No Accidents or Injuries Reported Related to Nissan RecallÂ
In documents provided to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, Nissan says that it is aware of four incidents in Canada and two in the United States that may be related to the recall. There have been no crashes or injuries.
Nissan also said it hasn’t yet developed a fix for the issue but expects to have one in spring 2022, Consumer Reports says.
Nissan will notify owners of the problem starting in March and will contact them again as soon as a fix is ready, according to Consumer Reports. However, owners may also contact Nissan customer service at 800-867-7669. The NHTSA campaign number is 22V024. Nissan’s own number for this recall is R21B9.
A separate class action lawsuit was filed against Nissan earlier this month over claims it sold model year 2017-18 Nissan Altima and Sentra vehicles with defective continuously variable transmissions.Â
The automaker is also facing claims from former workers who say it used a piece-rate pay system to shortchange its workers on their wages.
