PetArmor & PetArmor Plus Class Action Lawsuit

By Sarah Pierce

PetArmor PlusPet owners have filed yet another class action lawsuit against another manufacturer of popular over-the-counter flea and tick products, claiming their pets died after using the products.

Parent companies FidoPharm and Velcera have been hit with a class action lawsuit claiming their PetArmor and PetArmor Plus “spot-on” flea and tick products are unsafe. They join a growing list of companies being sued for not properly labeling their “spot-on” flea and tick products as being potentially dangerous to pets, including the makers of “Frontline,” “K9 Advantix,” “Advantage,” Hartz “Ultraguard” and Sergeant’s line of flea and tick products. [See “Flea & Tick Products False Advertising Class Action Lawsuit.”]

“Spot-on” flea and tick products are neurotoxin pesticides placed directly on the skin of millions of household dogs and cats across the U.S. These products generally do not say in their advertising, marketing or EPA-mandated labeling that they can cause death or other serious side-effects, including paralysis, seizures and skin lesions. As a result, most consumers are unaware that they are putting their pets at risk when applying these products.

The EPA has received over 75,000 complaints since 2008 regarding “spot-on” flea and tick products, but nothing has been done yet to force these companies to correct their advertising and labeling and to alert pet owners about the possible dangerous side-effects. As a result, pet owners are increasingly turning to legal means to rectify the situation by filing “spot-on” flea and tick product class action lawsuits.

The PetArmor and PetArmor Plus class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all purchasers of PetArmor and PetArmor Plus products for dogs and cats between September 15, 2005 and the present who incurred economic damages as a result of not using the remaining unsafe product they purchased.

The PetArmor class action lawsuit is accusing Fidopharm, Velcera and Wal-Mart, where the products are sold, of breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty of merchantability, unjust enrichment, and violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and Common Law Fraud.

The PetArmor Flea & Tick Product Class Action Lawsuit is styled Frost, et al. v. FidoPharm, Inc.; Velcera, Inc.; and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Case No. 11-cv-06976, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey.

I used PetArmor last night on my collie female dog and after about an hour she started breathing and panting heavily with her tongue hanging out–while lying down. I felt that something strange was happening after the application, went online to read the reviews, and quickly washed her, rinsing her fur for a while. Her severe reaction subsided after the wash. This product is scary!

I used Pet armor on my 10 year old Lab/ shepherd mix 3 weeks ago and she started being very lethargic , walked in the house that evening and fell over . She has been diagnosed with IMHA as a result of this POISON and if I could find the one’s responsible for marketing this I would shove it down there throat and enjoy watching the results .

  3. Fay Wilks says:

My cat started having focal seizures the morning after applying pet armor. I washed the rest off, and brought him to 2 vets to try to help him. We started an antiseizure medicine but he’s still having issues

Our standard poodle recently died in June 2020 very suddenly, after applying Pet Armor flea and tick preventer. She was just fine the night before. During the middle of the night I heard her trying to vomit. I thought nothing of it. The next morning my husband had to carry her down the stairs to go outside for her urine break. He rushed back upstairs and told me that CoCo was dying. I got dressed and ran downstairs. I saw it in her eyes. She was breathing very hard and her breathing was labored. She couldn’t stand up. We were calling her name and telling her that we loved her, but she did not respond. Her tongue was hanging out of her mouth. Her stomach was hard. I knew she was dying and wanted to save her, but we just did not know what to do. As we were about to try to take her to the hospital, she passed in my husband’s arms. We are devastated! Our daughter cried for days. CoCo was with our family since she was 3 years old. She and our daughter are the same age. CoCo was to turn 10 on July 4, 2020. The night before she passed I applied the Pet Armor. Nothing was wrong with her. Nothing! I couldn’t figure out what happened to CoCo? Then it hit me. I read the Pet Armor package. I saw the key active ingredient is Fipronil. This is a poison! It is banned in Canada and the UK, and so is Pet Armor. Fipronil and Pet Armor need to be banned in the US. We want answers and want the manufacturers of this produce held accountable. I will be sharing our story of losing CoCo with any and every social media and media outlet that I can find to make warn other pet owners of this deadly product and to help clear the mind of any pet parent that has suffered a loss of their pet to Pet Armor but did not suspect this product caused their pets death. If there is an active class action law suit that me and my husband can join regarding this product, please contact us to include us. Thank you. Sincerely, Dierdre Sparks

My dog is currently being treated by a vet for the same skin issue. I had no idea

  8. Cynthia Emig says:

I put PetArmor flea medication on my 3 year old cat 2 nights ago and almost immediately he started breathing heavy. Yesterday morning I took him to the vet since he was still breathing heavy and despite them bathing him, sedating him, giving him lasix to get the fluid off of his lungs (which was caused by the medication), them flushing his system with fluids and CPR, we lost our kitty yesterday around 430pm. I would not recommend ever using these products on your pets! Fleas are better than death!

  9. Jayme says:

I used the Pet Armor plus on my poodle and within 24 hours she was gone. I looked up symptoms. Site said they weren’t normal but do happen sometimes and would pass. By morning she was hiding. Had a seizure and passed. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. She was my best friend and I’m lost.

    1. Cynthia Bolenbaughci says:

I am so very sorry for the loss of your precious fur baby and family member. Someday the wound will heal and all the wonderful good memories will be there to comfort you.

  10. Erin says:

I just used pet armour on my 2 cats. 1 is almost 2 yrs old and the other is almost 3. My 2 yr old is perfectly fine but my 3 yr old cannot hardly walk and seem s very disoriented. Took him to the vet who confirmed that he is suffering from toxic poisoning from this medicine. I’m praying me sweet boy makes it.
