PetArmor & PetArmor Plus Class Action Lawsuit

By Sarah Pierce

PetArmor PlusPet owners have filed yet another class action lawsuit against another manufacturer of popular over-the-counter flea and tick products, claiming their pets died after using the products.

Parent companies FidoPharm and Velcera have been hit with a class action lawsuit claiming their PetArmor and PetArmor Plus “spot-on” flea and tick products are unsafe. They join a growing list of companies being sued for not properly labeling their “spot-on” flea and tick products as being potentially dangerous to pets, including the makers of “Frontline,” “K9 Advantix,” “Advantage,” Hartz “Ultraguard” and Sergeant’s line of flea and tick products. [See “Flea & Tick Products False Advertising Class Action Lawsuit.”]

“Spot-on” flea and tick products are neurotoxin pesticides placed directly on the skin of millions of household dogs and cats across the U.S. These products generally do not say in their advertising, marketing or EPA-mandated labeling that they can cause death or other serious side-effects, including paralysis, seizures and skin lesions. As a result, most consumers are unaware that they are putting their pets at risk when applying these products.

The EPA has received over 75,000 complaints since 2008 regarding “spot-on” flea and tick products, but nothing has been done yet to force these companies to correct their advertising and labeling and to alert pet owners about the possible dangerous side-effects. As a result, pet owners are increasingly turning to legal means to rectify the situation by filing “spot-on” flea and tick product class action lawsuits.

The PetArmor and PetArmor Plus class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all purchasers of PetArmor and PetArmor Plus products for dogs and cats between September 15, 2005 and the present who incurred economic damages as a result of not using the remaining unsafe product they purchased.

The PetArmor class action lawsuit is accusing Fidopharm, Velcera and Wal-Mart, where the products are sold, of breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty of merchantability, unjust enrichment, and violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and Common Law Fraud.

The PetArmor Flea & Tick Product Class Action Lawsuit is styled Frost, et al. v. FidoPharm, Inc.; Velcera, Inc.; and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Case No. 11-cv-06976, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey.

Buyer BEWARE!!! I bought petarmor plus and 3 days later my pomeranians hair was falling out. She devekoped a skin irritation from it and turned to infection. Caused a nervous condition also. She had blisters . We all need to get together and file a lawsuit against petarmor and get this toxic garbage off the market!!!

I’ve given my cats PetArmor as directed many times. Just this morning, i did it again as directed and my cat had a terrible seizure shortly after hours of “twitching” and “convulsing.” Do NOT give PetArmor to your animals. Just go the extra mile and get the better stuff, it’s worth it.

I applied petarmor plus to my 13 yr old shiszu a week ago, she first got diarrhea, then she wouldn’t take food, then her hind legs got weaker and now she won’t walk , eat or drink water . I’m extremely concerned. Has anyone had these side effects subside without their dog dying??? I really really want her to survive this.

I applied Petarmor on my cat and he died in one month. He got blisters on the spot of application, became lethargic, lost his appetite, anemic and had a seizure before we had to put him down. I wish I had more information on this product before applying it on my loving cat. I should have just bathed him instead of putting this strong poison on his skin and ear drops ;( RIP Corbin

I had no idea…. i’ve been treating our 13 year old cat, who was otherwise very healthy and active outdoors and in, with this stuff. It wasn’t very affective at keeping fleas off. I have been noticing him vocalizing more, having difficulty jumping up on the bed, and complaining when my daughter picked him up– i thought it was old age…… then, suddenly, the last week, he was weaker…and the last 2 days he could only walk a short distance before lying down. His hind legs weak and painful. I could not get him to the vet. He wandered off yesterday. I am so anguished over this.

About a month ago I bought Pet Armor for my 2 year old cat. He’s an outside/inside cat. Since applying the medicine, he doesn’t want to stay inside. He stays hidden in back wooded area. He has rash covering tail and hind leg area. Also I’ve noticed weakness in hind legs. I threw the rest of product in trash can. I didn’t know about this site until a hour ago.

  10. Amanda says:

Applied pet armor plus to my papipoo a few days ago. He kept trying to rub it off and I didn’t know why. Then I started seeing big clumps of fur everywhere and he doesn’t shed. Now he has a huge bald spot where I applied the pet armor, very red and sensitive so I’m assuming it burnt him. Been using regular pet armor for months with no problems but used plus this time. Will be switching back to frontline!
