PetArmor & PetArmor Plus Class Action Lawsuit

By Sarah Pierce

PetArmor PlusPet owners have filed yet another class action lawsuit against another manufacturer of popular over-the-counter flea and tick products, claiming their pets died after using the products.

Parent companies FidoPharm and Velcera have been hit with a class action lawsuit claiming their PetArmor and PetArmor Plus “spot-on” flea and tick products are unsafe. They join a growing list of companies being sued for not properly labeling their “spot-on” flea and tick products as being potentially dangerous to pets, including the makers of “Frontline,” “K9 Advantix,” “Advantage,” Hartz “Ultraguard” and Sergeant’s line of flea and tick products. [See “Flea & Tick Products False Advertising Class Action Lawsuit.”]

“Spot-on” flea and tick products are neurotoxin pesticides placed directly on the skin of millions of household dogs and cats across the U.S. These products generally do not say in their advertising, marketing or EPA-mandated labeling that they can cause death or other serious side-effects, including paralysis, seizures and skin lesions. As a result, most consumers are unaware that they are putting their pets at risk when applying these products.

The EPA has received over 75,000 complaints since 2008 regarding “spot-on” flea and tick products, but nothing has been done yet to force these companies to correct their advertising and labeling and to alert pet owners about the possible dangerous side-effects. As a result, pet owners are increasingly turning to legal means to rectify the situation by filing “spot-on” flea and tick product class action lawsuits.

The PetArmor and PetArmor Plus class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all purchasers of PetArmor and PetArmor Plus products for dogs and cats between September 15, 2005 and the present who incurred economic damages as a result of not using the remaining unsafe product they purchased.

The PetArmor class action lawsuit is accusing Fidopharm, Velcera and Wal-Mart, where the products are sold, of breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty of merchantability, unjust enrichment, and violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and Common Law Fraud.

The PetArmor Flea & Tick Product Class Action Lawsuit is styled Frost, et al. v. FidoPharm, Inc.; Velcera, Inc.; and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Case No. 11-cv-06976, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey.

Used this product on both dogs, A chihuahua and a Welsh Corgi. Both appeared to be disoriented The corgi was having moment of stopping as if she was unsure of what to do and both were having more difficulty in going up the steps to the back door. I checked with my wife about what she had done differently with the dogs was informed that she recently dosed them with the pet armor plus. have given each dog a thorough bath and cleaned all of their bedding. Never again!
This was the second treatment she gave them from this batch and I had not noticed the strong odor that this last dose had. Smelled strongly of what I associated with shellac or oil based paint brush cleaner. I myself had complained to my wife of this unpleasant odor for the last few days not knowing where it was from until I picked up the chihuahua to bring her in after she stumbled up the steps. They are not off food but are getting back to normal now. We as pet owners should be made aware of all possible side effects in a clear manner so we are able to address issues promptly if they occur, They are both older dogs and this may play a role as well. Personally I question the quality control of the product is being tightly monitored to assure an accurate dose since there was clearly in my experience a much stronger odor associated with this last application to the dogs.

This doesn’t help with flea & tick control either.

If my pets have never had an allergic reaction to Frontline Plus, do you think the same will be for the PetArmorPlus?, as i have been reading about these sad and painful experiences, no one really mentioned if they’d used the frontline plus in the past, and then switched to the PetArmorplus. ?..[I’m so sorry to those of you that lost your pet, or thats pet got sick!] . I have 4 cats now, and cannot afford to keep buying the Frontline ..I thought i’d try this..but after reading, i’m afraid to try it?

    1. GARY LANCASTER says:

      DONT USE IT

    2. Bridgett says:

I’ve always used frontline with no problem! But they were out two days ago so I grabbed this product. My cat died last night. I know it was this product that killed him.

  4. Darcey Miller says:

I have pet armor to my dogs a few years ago and 3 of them had focal seizures. I didn’t know what they were till recently. My girlfriend in Florida had the same problem with her dogs and use pet armor also. I switched to Bayer products and none of them have had it. Won’t use it again on any of my animals.

  5. Wendy Lott says:

I put Petarmour Plus on my seven cats. The next day my 1 year old, Eli, was lethargic. Day two, I took him to the vet and he had a 105 fever and she prescribed pain reliever and antibiotics. Four days later, he was worse, more antibiotics and syringing food as he quit eating and was dehydrated. Today, he was drooling and shivering and his temp was 104. He was Euthanized. I will NEVER use these products again! Shame on companies making money off this poison claiming it’s safe.

    1. MistyR says:

I’m so scared. I put it on my 3 year old cat night before last he is now lethargic and can barely move his back legs. He can’t walk. Calling the vet in the morning. Praying he’s okay. ?

  6. consiously AWAKE says:

I recently thought I was doing GOOD by protecting my 8 community cats and started with wallmart/HARTZ topical flea/tick, it seems that 3 cats suddenly are limping, although they are prof fence climbers to go next door under shed….so put them on clavamox…..My older Papa Kiti took a turn for worse, now limping right arm too….after 20 MAR using Hartz topical drug: ETOFENPROX. he is older and it might have been too strong for his system. His behavior has changed as if he is senile a bit, undecisive. thought he has arthritus so I have memory foam mats where he jumps off bed, chair…he can jump and does. He is on canna-pet cannabis oil and capsules right now- many benefits across the board so observing him for APR 2018. Other cat is not limping; he did have a paw puncture wound- prob metal fence/bamboo fencing… other cat is missing 27 JAN after recovering from his limp… coincidence after using HARTZ since JAN 2018 thinking I was protecting these cats. Now I only do REVOLUTION and DIATOMACEAUS food grade flea powder, COCONUT OIL repels/kills fleas too.
