PetArmor & PetArmor Plus Class Action Lawsuit

By Sarah Pierce

PetArmor PlusPet owners have filed yet another class action lawsuit against another manufacturer of popular over-the-counter flea and tick products, claiming their pets died after using the products.

Parent companies FidoPharm and Velcera have been hit with a class action lawsuit claiming their PetArmor and PetArmor Plus “spot-on” flea and tick products are unsafe. They join a growing list of companies being sued for not properly labeling their “spot-on” flea and tick products as being potentially dangerous to pets, including the makers of “Frontline,” “K9 Advantix,” “Advantage,” Hartz “Ultraguard” and Sergeant’s line of flea and tick products. [See “Flea & Tick Products False Advertising Class Action Lawsuit.”]

“Spot-on” flea and tick products are neurotoxin pesticides placed directly on the skin of millions of household dogs and cats across the U.S. These products generally do not say in their advertising, marketing or EPA-mandated labeling that they can cause death or other serious side-effects, including paralysis, seizures and skin lesions. As a result, most consumers are unaware that they are putting their pets at risk when applying these products.

The EPA has received over 75,000 complaints since 2008 regarding “spot-on” flea and tick products, but nothing has been done yet to force these companies to correct their advertising and labeling and to alert pet owners about the possible dangerous side-effects. As a result, pet owners are increasingly turning to legal means to rectify the situation by filing “spot-on” flea and tick product class action lawsuits.

The PetArmor and PetArmor Plus class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all purchasers of PetArmor and PetArmor Plus products for dogs and cats between September 15, 2005 and the present who incurred economic damages as a result of not using the remaining unsafe product they purchased.

The PetArmor class action lawsuit is accusing Fidopharm, Velcera and Wal-Mart, where the products are sold, of breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty of merchantability, unjust enrichment, and violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and Common Law Fraud.

The PetArmor Flea & Tick Product Class Action Lawsuit is styled Frost, et al. v. FidoPharm, Inc.; Velcera, Inc.; and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Case No. 11-cv-06976, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey.

Going to the Vet in the mornin. This should not be on the market! I want in on this lawsuit. DO NOT GIVE THIS TO YOUR DOG!!!!

I am having the same problems with my mini border collie mix. I applied Pet Armour because our vet suggested it since they think she is allergic to fleas and has dermatis. We were leaving on a trip where I thought she might get bitten. Applied the correct dose and within a day she has developed crusted lesions, a crust on her skin like cradle cap on a baby and can’t stop itching plus the flaky skin. Am now giving her Allermyl baths daily to prevent the itching and get rid of the scabs.

I am having serious suspicions that my almost 8 yr old dog’s kidney failure is related to this product. The only conclusion so far is that he had to have “”ingested””something and with the fact that nothing had really happened out of the ordinary for him, it remains a mystery. I have a 4yr old that also was treated at the same time but he has not shown any symptoms. I will never ever go OTC again. Is this law suit still going on? Has anything come of this yet? I hope to get my vet involved this evening as my Rocky boy is still in ICU and not expected to live past Friday.

Did you ever give your dog chicken jerky? Its made by Purina. Our dog died from kidney failure after eating these jerky strips which were purchased at Sams club. There is a class action lawsuit also about this.

After using PetArmor Plus on my dog, she developed skin lesions that flaked and crusted for weeks. I’d had her at the groomer’s 2 days prior to apolication, so chalked it up to something picked up there and not the flea treatments. Never made the connection. We didn’t use any topical preventatives for a few months, as the critters had died down in our area. Fast forward to a week ago. We knew we’d be taking Roxy to an area frequented by other dogs, so we applied PetArmor Plus a few days before the trip so it would have time to work. Again, she developed the skin lesions–worse this time, covering a line straight down her back and a bit of her sides. Within 4 days of application, she had a flakey yellowish white “crust” covering the lesions. By day 6, she was smelly and flaking when pet or brushed. We bathed her as soon as we noticed the lesions–day 2 following application–but it was too late, the PetArmor was already in her system and will likely plague her for weeks.

I put Pet Armor on my dog – she acted sick and lathoric 20 mins after, I kept an eye on her, she just seemed really tired was eating and using the bathroom. The next morning, I picked her up and she screamed I sat her down and she convulsed and died, not even 15 hours after being medicated.m 5/30/2012 treated, died 5/31/12

whoa now cowboy, you bathed your animal in it! of course it went into convulsions, sad but your not suppose to bathe them in it! it takes one dose. a drop practically. not however much you used. bath them in dawn dish soap if you have a flea problem, rinse them really well with lots of water, and then follow it with the pet armor, 1 tube, one dose, a drop.
