Pella ProLine WindowsPella Corporation has reached a class action lawsuit settlement over alleged defects in its ProLine series of windows that allegedly cause rotting in the surrounding wood. If approved, the class action settlement will cover a nationwide Class of consumers who purchased ProLine casement, awning and transom windows made by Pella from 1991 to 2006.

Under the proposed class action lawsuit settlement, consumers may be eligible to receive between $750 and $6,000. The Pella ProLine settlement also provides benefits beyond the warranty to consumers whose windows may suffer wood rot in the future.

Lead Plaintiff Dr. Leonard Saltzman sued Pella in 2006 alleging that he began to notice some of his window frames were rotting 10 years after installing ProLine casement windows in his new home, but the windows were no longer under warranty. Saltzman alleged the windows had a design defect that allows water to seep behind the aluminum cladding and cause wood rot.

Pella denies the allegations and maintains wood rot can be caused by many different reasons, but said in a statement last week that it is “pleased to have created a settlement framework that extends our existing customer support program with a claims process” for older windows.

“In the overwhelming majority of cases, our Pella windows performed extremely well and as designed,” Pella’s CEO said. “We know that each home or building is unique and the settlement is designed to address the relatively small number that may have experienced a problem.”

What can we do to help each other dealing with this emotional and financial disaster? Someone learned something yet? I cannot even go through the form. No help line, cold papers and no way to have Pella fix it for a fee

I did not know about the lawsuit and have one casement that was repaired by a cabinet maker. Severe rotting in bottom of the casement. I could not get help from window people. It is aluminum clad however, I don’t know when the windows (whole house were installed. We bought in June 1998. another is smoky so the seal is broken but, this is a large fixed window.
How does one determine it is a Pella window? I cannot find any indication of make/model on any of the windows.
    Thanks

Does the lawsuit cover double hung windows?

Will the lawsuit cover double hung windows? The upper sash on one of our windows is so rotted that we cannot even lock the window!

one of our thermal pane windows has severe wood rot. the window is still under warranty, however we have to pay $400+ for labor. got to keep checking the other windows for damage

This settlement is a joke! $750 max per structure. $6000 max if successful in arbitration. $750 will not buy one unit. The only people who benefit from this settlement are the lawyers and Saltzman who received $10,000.

Same story, different town. All of our windo sashes are rotted. The cranks have rotted right off of some of them. It is going to be a cold winter in this house. Thank you Pella for crappy windows. Please keep us informed of the lawsuit.

My windows on my house in Buffalo Minnesota are rotting just like the other home oweners above. The problem is, you do not see the actual damage until the sash has rotted through. This occured after my warranty expired! Pella should still be responsible for their lowsy product . I will be starting legal action with the company and I advise other owners to do the same. How do we apply for coverage of our Pella rotting casement windows? We had one replaced just before 10 years, and now a second in the group of 8 is rotting.

I purchased 20+ Proline units in 1996 and had nothing but problems with them. The main office kept giving me the runaround and never really did address the complete issue. I would up replacing the sashes and saved more than $800.00 in gas the very first winter the sashes were replaced. I would “never” buy another Pella product.
