Pella ProLine WindowsPella Corporation has reached a class action lawsuit settlement over alleged defects in its ProLine series of windows that allegedly cause rotting in the surrounding wood. If approved, the class action settlement will cover a nationwide Class of consumers who purchased ProLine casement, awning and transom windows made by Pella from 1991 to 2006.

Under the proposed class action lawsuit settlement, consumers may be eligible to receive between $750 and $6,000. The Pella ProLine settlement also provides benefits beyond the warranty to consumers whose windows may suffer wood rot in the future.

Lead Plaintiff Dr. Leonard Saltzman sued Pella in 2006 alleging that he began to notice some of his window frames were rotting 10 years after installing ProLine casement windows in his new home, but the windows were no longer under warranty. Saltzman alleged the windows had a design defect that allows water to seep behind the aluminum cladding and cause wood rot.

Pella denies the allegations and maintains wood rot can be caused by many different reasons, but said in a statement last week that it is “pleased to have created a settlement framework that extends our existing customer support program with a claims process” for older windows.

“In the overwhelming majority of cases, our Pella windows performed extremely well and as designed,” Pella’s CEO said. “We know that each home or building is unique and the settlement is designed to address the relatively small number that may have experienced a problem.”

We built our home in 2000 using Pella casement windows. Just last year I needed the roto operator assy replaced and when the technician came out ,he said I needed to replace the window sash as well due to wood rot.Since the 10 year warranty had expired, he said they’d give a 25-30% discount. Not realizing this was an inherent problem with Pella ,I went ahead and paid him to do the replacement. Now, I’m noticing two more window sashes that have rot. How many more I have is unknown as the casement conceals the rot. Please include me in future legal action.

My home has over 60 Pella Proline windows installed in 1996. Some of the casement windows have the rot-at the bottom syndrome. Please notify me when this case gets to the point where we can join in.

I have recently called pella to come look at my sliding door. I built my house in 2005 and my sliding door is getting moisture between the pains and the wood is soft and rotting and turning black. I contacted pella re: the sliding door and they said it is not part of the class action suit and they are charging me to have someone come out to my house. I also have two windows doing the same thing does anyone know how I join the suit? I have all my reciepts still.

Eight years after we installed Pella Proline windows the sills got very soft and Pella replaced them for free. Two years later and just months out of warranty multiple windows, including the ones they repaired, leak so badly that it is ruining our carpeting. They want to charge us over 1500 per window to replace them. They should have replaced them two years ago!

We have a home that was built in 2001. Our Pella windows on the south west side of our home. (15+ windows, transoms, sliding door)are rotting badly. Two years ago, we had a local Pella rep come out and give us and estimate to replace 7 rotten sashes. Since then, almost all of the window sashes have rotted.
Last year, once I heard about the suit, I did correspond
once or twice with one of the legal assistants on this case.
At this point, what do I need to do to be included in the settlement? I can provide any information you need.
    Thank you. Jacquie D.

I have Proline windows installed in 1998, I live in and went to the Pella Window store in Pella and was told that I would be BUYING (at their cost) and paying any labor, on any window that needs to be replaced if it was within the 5 year extended warranty, past the normal 10 years. I also mentioned my Proline patio sliding door is doing the same thing, I was told that is not included in the “extended warranty”. Will this class action suit benefit me? If so how does one go about filing one?””Any info would be appreciated

How do we file a class action suit? We put in Pella windows in 1998 and we have this very problem of the rotting wood…..Pella told us that because the windows were out of warranty it is not their problem….seems to me that if you are suppose to have a reliable product you would stand by it…..I get normal use and abuse…but rotting wood because of THEIR poor manufacturing shoud NOT be MY problem.

I have approx $30,000 worth of pella windows in my home with about half of them affected by water damage and rot to the frames. One triple window has rotted to the extent that one end the aluminum is coming off and my interior wall is damaged.
