  • Why: The controller cord can detach and ignite, posing risks of fire, burn and shock hazards.
  • Where: The recalled products were sold nationwide online.

OCTROT is recalling roughly 178,000 heated sherpa throws and blankets after the products were found to pose fire, burn and electrical shock hazards.

The recall was announced on July 30 with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), under recall number 26-652.

The affected items are OCTROT-branded electric sherpa throws and blankets sold in five color combinations — gray and yellow, white with gray, white with yellow, white with blue, and white with red — and in five sizes ranging from 50 by 60 inches up to 84 by 90 inches. Each blanket includes a white controller with five temperature settings. Model numbers OCT-5060, OCT-5062, OCT-6248, OCT-7284 and OCT-8490, along with the OCTROT brand name, are printed on the product packaging.

The throws and blankets were sold exclusively on Amazon.com between August 2021 and December 2025, priced between $40 and $60.

According to the recall notice, the controller’s cord has two or four small holes at the point where it connects to the controller. That defect can cause the cord to detach and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire, burn and shock hazards.

OCTROT heated blanket recall linked to 27 fires, 15 injuries

The recall notice underscores the severity of the defect, reporting that OCTROT has received 555 reports of the throws and blankets melting, sparking or smoking. Those incidents have resulted in 27 fires and 15 burn or electrical shock injuries.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled blankets and throws immediately to avoid further risk.

To receive a refund, owners are instructed to first disable the product by unplugging the electrical cord and cutting it in half. Consumers must then email a photo showing the cut cord to [email protected] and dispose of the destroyed item once that step is complete. OCTROT has confirmed that a full refund will follow once the photo is received and verified.
