Maple Leaf Foods bacon recall overview:

  • Who: Maple Leaf Foods is recalling 12,036 pounds of not ready-to-eat smoked bacon.
  • Why: The product was imported from Canada without the benefit of import reinspection.
  • Where: The bacon recall is active in the United States, specifically affecting Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Maple Leaf Foods is recalling more than 12,000 pounds of its not ready-to-eat smoked bacon due to the lack of import reinspection upon entry into the United States.

The recall alert was issued on July 24 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The affected products include 12-oz vacuum packages of “Royale Natural Applewood Smoked All Natural Uncured Bacon” and “Top Valu Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon,” both labeled as products of Canada.

These items bear Canadian establishment number “EST. 1” and were produced on various dates in June 2026, with sell-by dates ranging from Sept. 1 to Sept. 7, 2026.

The issue was identified during routine FSIS inspection activities, which revealed that the bacon was imported without the necessary reinspection.

“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers,” the bacon recall says.

Consumers urged to dispose of or return the smoked bacon

The recall notice urges consumers to dispose of or return the affected Hardwood and Applewood smoked bacon products to the place of purchase.

The products were distributed to grocery outlet distributors and retailers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington — a full list is available on the FSIS website. The FSIS is actively conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the products are no longer available to consumers.

Maple Leaf Foods is working closely with the FSIS to address the issue and has provided contact information for consumers seeking more information.

Maple Leaf Foods can be reached at 416-518-5131 or via email at [email protected]. Additionally, FSIS resources for consumers with food safety questions include a toll-free hotline and an online complaint monitoring system.

Maple Leaf Foods says it has not received any reports of illness related to the bacon recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In other news, Kraft Heinz Co. is facing an ongoing class action lawsuit from August 2025, alleging it failed to disclose that certain Oscar Mayer turkey bacon products may have been contaminated with listeria.
