Sports Hip InjuryA new Rejuvenate hip implant lawsuit was recently filed against Stryker, which has joined the multidistrict litigation proceedings occurring in a Minnesota federal court.

The Rejuvenate metal and metal hip implant lawsuit claims that Stryker, the device manufacturer, made an unsafe hip implant and failed to warn the medical community and general public of the risks associated with using the device.

The metal-on-metal hip replacement lawsuit was brought by plaintiffs Dwight and Brenda A., a married couple residing in Alabama.

According to the metal hip implant lawsuit Dwight had his left hip replaced with a Rejuvenate Modular hip stem on Feb. 9, 2010. Dwight claims that after he was implanted with the Rejuvenate metal hip implant that he was injured by excessive levels of chromium and cobalt found in his blood stream, and he began to suffer adverse side effects caused by the hip implant.

At the time the metal on metal hip implant lawsuit was filed, Dwight had not had the hip implant removed.

Brenda joined the metal hip implant lawsuit as a co-plaintiff bringing a loss of consortium claim, or a claim for loss of spousal intimacy. The Stryker Rejuvenate hip implant lawsuit also asserts claims for negligence, strict product liability, breach of warranty, consumer fraud and deception, and misrepresentation.

This metal hip implant lawsuit is just one of many metal hip proceedings underway as part of the multidistrict litigation (MDL) in Minnesota. Multidistrict litigation proceedings occur when multiple lawsuits share similar facts and issues, similar to a class action lawsuit. They allow similar lawsuits to be dealt with in a consistent manner and with efficiency.
