A testosterone product lawsuit filed by a Texas man claims the low-t drug Axiron caused him to suffer a heart attack. Plaintiff John H. is suing Axiron manufacturers, Eli Lilly and Co., and others for failing to warn that the low testosterone treatment could increase the risk of having a cardiac event.
Recent testosterone studies have found that taking a testosterone product may increase the risk of having a stroke, heart attack, or even dying by as much as 30 percent. John alleges the companies that manufacture the low-T therapy he was prescribed were negligent in warning of the increased risk of having a heart attack, which he eventually suffered.
Testosterone Product Sales
Testosterone replacement therapy is a thriving industry in the U.S. as the number of men who use one of the various testosterone products on the market has tripled over the last decade. More than five million men each year use a low-t drug in the form of: testosterone injections, testosterone cream, testosterone gels, and a testosterone patch.
While low-T therapy medications are marketed to men as a way to increase sex drive and build muscle mass, there are medical experts who believe low testosterone is part of the aging process and testosterone replacement therapy may be exposing men to avoidable heath risks.
Low testosterone symptoms include:
- Hair loss
- Low sex drive
- Fatigue
- Increase in body fat
- Difficulty achieving erections
- Mood changes
- Loss of muscle mass
Low-T Health Studies
A recent study by the Journal of the American Medical Association researched nearly 9,000 men taking a low-t medication over a three-year time frame. Researchers discovered that testosterone product users had a 30 percent increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and death.
Another study by Harvard researchers followed more than 50,000 men taking a testosterone therapy product and found that they also had an increased risk for having a cardiac event when compared to non-users.
Testosterone product studies have prompted multiple low-t product lawsuits like John’s that allege low-t drug manufacturers were negligent in their warnings.
Low-T Drug Lawsuit
Testosterone users filing low-t drug lawsuits claim that the side effect warnings listed on low-t products include depression, headaches, and back pain, yet fail to mention the increased risk of heart attacks or strokes. John is just one of thousands of men who are pursuing legal action against low-t product manufacturers for not fully disclosing the potential health risks involved with taking a testosterone product.
There are numerous low-t drug lawsuits that claim drug manufacturers intentionally tried to convince millions of men that low testosterone is a medical condition that requires treatment, when in fact a lower level of testosterone is simply a natural part of aging.
Some testosterone product lawsuits claim that pharmaceutical companies are also concealing the serious health risks of their products and are illegally paying kickbacks to physicians who prescribed the testostereone therapy treatment.
The Low-T Drug Lawsuit is Case No. 1:15-cv-04428, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
