Hyundai recall overview:
- Who: Hyundai is recalling 96,310 Tucson, Tucson Hybrid and Tucson Plug-in Hybrid vehicles.
- Why: A software bug can cause the instrument panel display to go blank, increasing crash risk.
- Where: The recall is active in the United States.
Hyundai is recalling more than 96,000 Tucson models due to a software issue that can cause the instrument panel display to intermittently go dark, posing a safety risk.
The recall was initiated on June 24 as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
It affects 2025 and 2026 Tucson models, including 39,605 gas-powered, 53,886 Hybrid and 2,819 Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. The issue stems from a software glitch that disrupts communication between the instrument cluster and the head-up display, causing both systems to reset and the dashboard to momentarily go blank.
Hyundai’s recall notice states, “An instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, increases the risk of a crash.”
Fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this issue.
Hyundai to provide free software update and reimburse any out-of-pocket repairs
Hyundai assures that no new parts are needed to address the issue. Instead, dealers will update the instrument cluster software to ensure only the head-up display resets, not the entire dashboard.
Vehicle owners will begin receiving notification letters in August with details on how to schedule a free repair at their local Hyundai dealer, according to the Hyundai recall.
Additionally, vehicles connected to Hyundai Bluelink may receive the update over the air, eliminating the need for a dealership visit. Hyundai has also committed to reimbursing owners who have already paid for repairs, provided they follow the company’s guidelines.
For more information, affected owners can contact Hyundai’s customer service at 855-371-9460. The recall number is 304, and further details can be found on the NHTSA recall page.
Hyundai says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
In another recent Hyundai recall, the company called back more than 421,000 Santa Cruz, Tucson, Tucson Hybrid and Tucson Plug-In Hybrid 2025-2026 models due to a software defect that may cause the forward collision avoidance system to activate brakes unexpectedly.
