Honda class action lawsuitA federal class action lawsuit has been filed against Honda claiming its 2003-2007 Accords and Civics have defective paint that delaminates, causing the vehicles to appear faded or to have peeling paint.

The Honda Civic/Accord paint class action lawsuit was filed by two Plaintiffs, including a New York resident who alleges portions of her 2003 Honda Accord began exhibiting “areas and splotches of deterioration and eventually grey or white areas where the vehicle’s original paint had delaminated. Over time, the paint delamination has increased in severity and extent, covering several of the vehicle’s body panels.” When the Plaintiff brought her car to a Honda dealership to repair the paint delamination, Honda denied her request because it was beyond the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty.

“In modern vehicles, automobile paint is routinely expected to last the lifetime of the vehicle, such that, absent an accident, a vehicles owner reasonably would not expect to have to spend thousands of dollars to have his or her vehicles stripped and repainted during ownership of the car,” the class action lawsuit says. “Honda, however, has manufactured vehicles with a defective paint or paint application, that leaves vehicle owners with a vehicle of unacceptable appearance. In addition, the delamination of the paint from the vehicle’s body panels, exposing the vehicle to enhanced erosion.”

The Honda paint class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all California and New York owners of a model year 2003-2007 Honda vehicles. It is seeking actual damages and losses sustained by Class Members and other relief for breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty of merchantability, and violation of California’s unfair competition law.

I have a 2011 Honda Accord in taffeta white. The paint is chipping on the passenger side front door. It started right below the window and is getting bigger and bigger. The car has been good to me mechanically but the chipping paint drives me crazy. Add me to the class action lawsuit list please!

My 2011 Honda Pilot started peeling from my hood as well as my roof of vehicle. It was my major purchase in my life now I’m not sure if I want a Honda again.

    1. Trisa Gray says:

Walked outside today and huge chunks are peeling on top above windshield. I am livid. I want in on a class action lawsuit.

I have 2015 pilot. After 18 months paint peel off from the rooftop. I was able to repaint 3x since then with Honda. Now in February 2023 it started new peeling off passenger rear door window and driver side rear 3rd row window. Now Honda will not do anything since the 7 years was on Nov. 2022. This is very upsetting since my car has been garage and only has 60k miles

      2. Tony Santana says:

Me, too. I’m in for a class action lawsuit

    2. Amy MF says:

I also have a 2011 Honda pilot with severe paint peeling and was just denied a claim to repaint the car due to it being out of warranty. I’m definitely interested in exploring options with others that have the same issue. Honda needs to be accountable.

I have a 2014 Honda Accord and the back window is peeling around the edges it is getting worse. It is starting to peel on edge of roof. I called corporate and they said there is nothing there’s nothing thay can do. Is there a lawsuit out?

  5. Jon says:

Sign me up, this is so frustrating. I love this car and paid lots of money for it (it’s an 08 civic si) but i will never buy another Honda. I don’t think I was ever notified about the recall either.
I’d almost even consider small claims court if a class action isn’t started. Honda Canada just settled their lawsuit, this doesn’t apply to The US does it?

  6. Ron Perelman says:

I just won a small claims lawsuit against Honda for the defective paint. The award will cover a comlpeye paint job

    1. Rita says:

My 2013 Odyssey Van paint is falling off. They repaired roof in 2018. But now back and sides peeling. Could you tell me more about how pold your vehicle was and steps on how to get it repaired. Since 7 years have passed they don’t want to repair it. Van works great. Low miles. But it will rust. They knew this was a flaw. Texas Help

    2. Owner of Civic says:

      Ron
Would you be able to give additional details about your small claims lawsuit?
Thank you for taking the time.

    3. Suz says:

How did you go about doing this Ron? I have a 2016 HRV with the peeling paint issue. Honda will only pay 80%. It is only on the roof currently, so I’m sure eventually it will be more. Additionally, I will need transportation for the time the car is in the shop, and someone to pick me up & drop me off (which is a 3 hour round trip) to get the paint fixed.
      Thanks!

    4. Lynda Teutsch says:

How did you do this? I’m facing peeling paint on my 2011 Accord Ex. It is peeling around the rear window and just keeps getting worse.
Our local Honda location offered a “good Will” offer of $300.00 on a $2,000,00 repair.
This paint peeling is not my issue, it is a Honda problem.
      I’m in Oregon.

    5. Kristy M says:

I am currently fighting with Honda about my white 2015 Pilot that I just purchased in March of 2022 and the roof is peeling. Would you mind sharing how you went about the lawsuit?

      1. PT says:

I have a Honda HRV -Pearl White. This is second time I have had it taken in have paint repaired. They refuse to paint the entire vehicle. My local Honda dealership where I purchased the vehicle said the the issue would not be covered. After researching and contact Honda Corporate and they told me I had an extend 7 year warranty for the paint issue. I have opened up a case number with corporate headquarters. I was notified of any recall or their is a defective paint issue.
They have had a my vehicle for a little over a month. Now it is principle. I keep my car maintained with their service department. This is not something that was caused by me. They need to take responsibility. They did not mind taking the money at the time of purchase. I am not paying for this out of my pocket!

        1. Amy MF says:

Same issue with the pearl white paint. My claim was denied. Estimate for repaint is 10K. Assessor from body shop said nothing I could have done to prevent. Honda needs to make this right for all affected!

          1. Amy MF says:

PS Mine is 2011 Honda Pilot

    6. Erica Kolbrener says:

      What state are you in?

  7. Kristin Hepburb says:

2011 White Honda Odyssey paint started peeling 12 days after the bulletin expired. Called dealer immediately and they said the district manager denied the claim after sending all the pictures requested because bulletin expired. No grace and this no fault of our care of the vehicle. This past month the tailgate has now started peeling. My car officially looks like junk and is an embarrassment. Going to get new estimates this week and start the process to get some sort of compensation. We have 3 white Hondas in my family and 2 are peeling now.

  8. Laurie Jackson says:

Our 2012 Honda Pilot started peeling paint on the roof in 2018. came off in big sheets down to bare metal. The dealership took care of the first one as “goodwill”. More paint peeling in 2019 on the a pillars. They painted those… now a big chunk completely gone on hood. They have refused to fix. Wish we would have demanded that car be painted when we first discovered the problem! Had no idea how big of an issue this is! I’m with others, would love to see a class action lawsuit. This is obviously a paint defect that Honda should stand by. So disappointed and frustrated!

  9. Rady Rom says:

Called American Honda and was told because it’s past my warranty years/mileages, there was nothing they can do! I own a 2011 Honda Pilot Touring and the paint is completely peeling from my hood, finders, doors trim where the windows starts and the hood. This is so unacceptable. Paid so much money on this car to be told there’s nothing they can do, it’s now the owner expenses!

    1. Chana says:

2013 Honda Accord. Looks like it has chicken pox. Looks like all little air bubbles chipped. Honda should be held accountable clearly it’s not one make one model

  10. Tyjuana Parker says:

I would like file a class action
Suit 2011 Honda Pilot Touring .
Paint chipping at the sunroof , as well as the right panel of door where window starts , as well as left panel door same location The paint is constantly chipping. We pay too much for these for Honda not being held liable.
