Honda class action lawsuitA federal class action lawsuit has been filed against Honda claiming its 2003-2007 Accords and Civics have defective paint that delaminates, causing the vehicles to appear faded or to have peeling paint.

The Honda Civic/Accord paint class action lawsuit was filed by two Plaintiffs, including a New York resident who alleges portions of her 2003 Honda Accord began exhibiting “areas and splotches of deterioration and eventually grey or white areas where the vehicle’s original paint had delaminated. Over time, the paint delamination has increased in severity and extent, covering several of the vehicle’s body panels.” When the Plaintiff brought her car to a Honda dealership to repair the paint delamination, Honda denied her request because it was beyond the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty.

“In modern vehicles, automobile paint is routinely expected to last the lifetime of the vehicle, such that, absent an accident, a vehicles owner reasonably would not expect to have to spend thousands of dollars to have his or her vehicles stripped and repainted during ownership of the car,” the class action lawsuit says. “Honda, however, has manufactured vehicles with a defective paint or paint application, that leaves vehicle owners with a vehicle of unacceptable appearance. In addition, the delamination of the paint from the vehicle’s body panels, exposing the vehicle to enhanced erosion.”

The Honda paint class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all California and New York owners of a model year 2003-2007 Honda vehicles. It is seeking actual damages and losses sustained by Class Members and other relief for breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty of merchantability, and violation of California’s unfair competition law.

Purchased brand new 2017 Honda Civic EX-T. Color cosmic blue. This is my 4th Honda and most expensive. Also purchased extended warranty. Added another purchase for protection of the paint recommended by the financial manager. The product is cilajet cost additional $1200.00 paid cash for car. No warnings about any defects. Now it’s 4yrs and car paint has oxidation roof which was covered by cilajet ethos insurance. Still had to pay for a car rental for 10 days, $400.00. Now the passenger side is oxidative and the claim for repairs is $2499.42 and Honda wants me to pay half. Not acceptable especially since I’ve found out(on my own) this car was manufactured in Canada where the court ordered Honda to repaint every Civic manufacturerd in Canada per a class action lawsuit. Also for over 2yrs I have asked the service technician at Honda about the rubber around windows has cracked and they claim its a problem but not covered under warranty. I’m retired 66yr old women living on social security!

My 2012 Honda Odyssey touring has experienced major peeling between the windshield and the sunroof and on the back lift gate. These large areas of peeling paint began after the warranty expired. Very frustrating. Calls to the corporate office have resulted in no relief. Please add me to this class action lawsuit, as this is not right!

my 2014 Honda Odyssey in pearl white is peeling paint. The repairs were done once in 2020 and i still had a deductible. now in 2021 a new section is peeling off and they are offering to split the cost….nope!!

I have a 2007 Honda Odyssey. Paint has chipped on roof and hood down to rust. Will cost over $3000 to repaint. Add me to lawsuit.

I have a Pearl White 2015 Honda Pilot Touring purchased in 2016 as a certified used car at Executive Honda. In the last 12 months the truck paint has peeled/flaked off in three different areas. First it was the area between the sunroof and windshield, six months later it was an area where the front-passenger quarter panel meets the hood, and six months later a small area around the third-window (fixed glass window) on the passenger side has started to peel and bubble up.

The first instance was covered by a recall. The second instance was covered under a goodwill one-time repair. I’m now working on the third instance and Honda is not interested in covering this damage under the extended paint recall warranty. This is completely unacceptable and Honda should be held accountable for selling vehicles that knowingly have poor workmanship. This is my 6 Honda vehicle, and it’s the newest and most costly version I’ve owned, and never have I had any issues with the pain of the vehicle simply falling off.

A class action lawsuit is definitely warranted here and I’m sure you will have thousands of people joining your case.

I have a 2010 Odyssey with the roof and hood needing total paint repair – its ridiculous that Honda wont cover this!! The paint should LAST!!

I have the same issue with our 2008 Honda Odyssey. We did regular waxing and took excellent care of this car. The good and roof paint are completely faded.

I have a 2009 Odyssey and a big chunk of paint is coming off the front of the roof.

My 2015 Honda CRV Touring in obsidian blue pearl is peeling in several places. It was confirmed by two Honda Dealers and my insurance company it’s a manufacturer defect but Have not seen it happen enough in my make or color to be included in the extended 7 year warranty extension. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 2011 Honda Civic. First, the paint started peeling off from the top. After fixing that, the bumper and the hood paint started fading. Recently, left and right side of the paint is peeling off. Last month again I gave it for a paint job. Total cost is $1800.

  8. Doris Vankuiken says:

2008 black civic looks terrible. Body shop wants $2000 to paint it. Honda denied my attempt to get help with the recall because I was 2 yrs too late. It actually didn’t start looking bad until 2010. I love my car but am not a Honda fan.

  9. Royce Smith says:

My 2008 Honda Civic started having the paint issue in 2019. Claim denied since it was after the extended warranty time period. The letter I received about this extended warranty did not include my color.

    1. Ann Smith says:

How can you determine if your Honda Civic was manufactured in Canada? I have a 2007, bought new and is the red color, which does not seem to be a color acknowledged by Honda to be repaired. My car is mainly peeling on the truck and roof. Looks awful.

  10. Tonia P. Starr says:

I have a 2009 Black Honda Pilot Touring. The paint started fading(white chalking patches) on the hood and roof. I am very disappointed that Honda is not taking responsibility for this defect affecting so many consumers.
