A2007 Chevrolet Impala federal class action lawsuit claims General Motors’ 2007-2008 Impalas have defective rear spindle rods that cause wheel misalignment and premature tire wear. The Impala class action goes on to say that even though GM issued an Impala recall for Chevy Impalas that operated as police vehicles, it won’t honor warranties for identical cars owned by customers who aren’t police.

According to the GM/Chevy Impala class action lawsuit:

“The model year 2007 and 2008 Impalas were sold with common defective rear spindle rods that caused and continue to cause wheel misalignment and premature tire wear. Even though it has issued a recall bulletin for model year 2007 and 2008 Impalas operated as police vehicles, GM has failed to honor its warranties with Plaintiff and the putative class, by failing to correct the manufacturing defect in their vehicles. There are no relevant material differences between police vehicles and class members’ vehicles relating the defective spindle rods.

“The fact that GM moved to fix certain Impalas shows that it knew of the defect. Despite this, GM continued to sell and has refused to honor the warranties on hundreds of thousands of defective and potentially unsafe vehicles.”

“>The Impala defective rear spindle rod class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all persons in the United States who purchased or leased a model year 2007 and 2008 Chevrolet Impala. It is seeking class certification, compensatory damages for Class Members, exemplary damages, and more for Breach of Express Warranty and Injunctive and Declaratory Relief.

I have (2) Impala SS vehicles and I have rear tire wear on both. I hope this law suit is settled. It is totally unfair that I should be stuck buying tires over and over, at $250 each, because GM will not take responsibility. I was a “Buy American Only” person but this has really changed my mind!

i have owned my 07 Impala about 4 years now with just 70k miles on it…since i bought it have now put three sets of rear tires on this car and was just in the shop Saturday and needs a rear set again…I have been loyal GM customer for a very long time and this right here takes the cake….If they dont step up and cover these cars I promise i will never buy another car again from them!

  3. Richard says:

I bought a used 2007 Chevy Impala 4 years ago and I am still buying rear tires for it. the rear tires wear out on the insides all the way to the steel belts. I contacted GM and they told me they do not assume responsibility for this defect.

I bought a brand new 2007 Impala in early 2008, and have had nothing but issues with the rear alignment. I have had my car’s alignment done many times (I’ve lost count). At first, I thought it was an issue with the local dealer’s equipment, so I took it elsewhere. It will not stay in alignment. I’ve wasted a lot of money on this, only to find out that it is an issue with the rear spindles. The car handles like garbage in any weather. It’s just plain scary to drive on wet or slippery roads. GM needs to do a recall on these… NOW!!!

  5. Dick says:

I have a 2009 Impala and have the same problem with tire wear. My car has 75,000 miles on it and I have replaced 4 sets of tires and have to buy them again. This car has had numerous problems including power steering, gas pedal assembly, door locks! I will never buy a GM product again!!

  6. Lloyd says:

I have a 08 impala SS and I’ve had to replace the tires several times due to tire wear..I asked the dealer about real spindles and he told me my car wasn’t on the “list” ..I told yea because the list was only cop cars but the same spindles.. He had no answer for me,also my battery dies if I don’t start the car for 2 days… I put a new battery in and still something kills the battery if I don’t start it in a couple of days..really?? I’ve had these problems since I bought the car brand new. I love Chevys and I can’t believe they would turn they’re backs on customers over a defect that they are responsible for..can anyone tell me if the lawsuit is on going? lolosmuzic@yahoo.com Thank you

I have a 2008 Impala and totally disgusted with it. I have a 08 with 48.000 miles on it and it will not stay in the middle of the road. I love chevys, but this one is no good. Window cracked for no reason. Rear tires are wearing out. The front end wobbles. The service airbag light is coming on and off. And much more.

  8. Annette in S.C. says:

I have a 2008 Impala and totally disgusted is the only way to describe my feelings!!! I am hurt by all repairs needed being that I am a single mother…so totally mad and in need of a new car….everything that could go wrong did go wrong…

  9. John Schmidt says:

My mother is 73 years old and bought her Impala in 2008. She too has wear on the inside tread of the rear tires. Her car has 33,000 miles on it, but she drives very little and never has to go above 50 mph. Light driving in town, but the the wear is there and is a safety concern. GM should show concern for the customers safety over their bottom line. GM FIX THESE REAR SPINDLES!!!

I had owned a 2007 chevy impala..and since i bought it, it had 8 wheel alignments, replaced the two back tires and then the two front tires and then about a yr later had replaced all 4 tires again. Was told by the dealer that its a safety feature for my car the reason for it driftn to the right incase i get into an accident, so i asked them soo what if my accident was on the otherside it only drifts to the right. I had went to the BBB and they took it for a test drive and rulled out that theres nothing wrong with my car, huh their nuts. So i get a letter from them that since my car has had 8 alighments and one rotor was shaved and the racket pinion steering knuckle or somthn like that was replaced..my car was indeed a LEMON, but didn’t feel that I should have my car replaced. So pretty much I was stuck with a car that had problems. Finally after 4 yrs they finally fixed my car, they never told me what it was. Then I was coming home from work and my car just started knocking and turned off and started to smoke like crazy..soo here I am with a car with low miles n a possible blown frigin motor..this car was nothing but a headache from the start, had it towed to the dealer to get told that since it was a demo when we bought it, the warrany expired a month ago and we are not covered..yup they rammed that up our u know what..we were never told about that either…so we told the bank to come pick up their car at the dealer theres nothing else we can do…Thank you GM and Register Chevy
