Gamers Sue OpenFeint in Class Action Lawsuit

By Kimberly Mirando

OpenFeint
Gamers have filed a federal class action lawsuit against OpenFeint and its parent company, Gree International, claiming that the mobile gaming network accessed their cell phones’ unique device identifiers and sold their personal information to Internet application developers without permission.
OpenFeint is the largest mobile social gaming network, offering over 5,300 gaming applications to over 100 million users. According to the OpenFeint class action lawsuit, the company violated a federal computer fraud law and wiretap law, as well as California state laws, by allegedly compiling and misappropriating its users’ personal information, including their gender, age, education level, geographic location and household income. This information was then sold to third parties such as mobile-device application developers, advertising networks and web-analytic vendors without adequate notice or consent from consumers.

The case is Matthew Hines, et al. v. OpenFeint, Inc. and Gree International, Inc., Case No. 11-cv-3084, United States District Court, Northern District of California, San Francisco.

  1. Shock says:

Gree is now syphoning money out of their latest acquirement.I.e. Dragonsoul. Acquired from Perblue. They (Gree) have done nothing to assist players in their losses of diamonds which cost real monies. Rewards for which players worked for and earned. They implemented a forum system to separate themselves from the players and giving other players power over rivals in the game. Those moderators though voluntary. Can and do ban players from voicing concerns to Gree itself. There is almost certainty that Gree is using shills in these forums to keep certain unhappy players banned. They also gave them monitoring positions in game on the same servers they play on. Creating a conflict of interest. Personally I have multiple screenshots of antagonists in forum most likely a paid shill that causes descriptive activity towards players demanding answers from Gree itself. I also have screenshots on multiple in game tickets that show the tech/devs aren’t even working on players issues.
