- Where: The recall is active in the United States.
Ford is recalling close to 420,000 vehicles due to a defect in the seat belt pretensioner that could lock the seat belt, posing an increased risk of injury during a crash.
The recall, announced on May 27, affects 419,967 vehicles, including 342,283 Ford Expedition vehicles and approximately 77,684 Lincoln Navigators, specifically the 2018-2022 year models.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall 26V344, the seat belt pretensioner in these vehicles may inadvertently lock, hindering the seat belt’s ability to retract or extend.
This defect could lead to injury if a crash occurs, as the seat belt may not function as intended.
This recall replaces and expands previous NHTSA recalls 24V099 and 25V197. Vehicles previously inspected or repaired under the prior recalls will need the new repair completed.
Dealers to inspect, replace seat belt retractors if necessary
Ford is taking proactive measures to address the issue by sending interim letters to affected vehicle owners starting June 8, with additional communication planned for August 2026, when the remedy is expected to be available.
For more information about the Ford recall, consumers can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 26S34. Alternatively, drivers can search their vehicle identity number using the NHTSA search tool.

In related news, Ford is currently recalling more than 179,000 Bronco and Ranger vehicles due to a seat bolt defect that may increase injury risk during a crash.

Add me. I have a car on the recall list
My wife was in an accident not her fault. Hit and run. The seat belt did not work and my wife hit the windshield. Years late we found out that she has brain damage from it.
Insurance company didn’t do anything about the claim of the seat belt and only gave us a check for the vehicle.
Now she has seizures and is pretty much ned ridden. THis accident was 2013 but the we didn’t know it was from the accident until about 6 years ago.Of course you can’t get attorneys in California. So we never went after Ford
