Ford recall overview:
- Who: Ford is recalling more than 179,000 Bronco and Ranger vehicles.
- Why: A faulty seat bolt could compromise passenger restraint.
- Where: The recall is active across the United States.
Ford is recalling more than 179,000 Bronco and Ranger vehicles due to a defect in the front seat frame that may increase injury risk during a crash.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued the recall notice on April 28. It affects 62,255 Ford Bronco SUVs and 117,443 Ford Ranger pickup trucks from model years 2024 to 2026.
The problem originates from a pivot bolt in the front seats that can loosen or become dislodged, potentially failing to properly restrain passengers in the event of a crash.
According to the NHTSA, this defect poses a significant safety risk. “A seat with a dislodged bolt may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury,” the Ford recall states.
Dealers to inspect Ford Bronco, Ranger vehicles at no cost
Ford dealers have been instructed to inspect and replace the pivot links and bolts as necessary, free of charge.
Owners of the affected vehicles are expected to receive recall notification letters by May 11, the notice states. A follow-up letter with details about a permanent fix is expected by July 2026.
The recall notice highlights that the issue could affect thousands of drivers, as the models involved are widely used.
This recall follows a previous one involving more than 140,000 Ranger trucks due to a wiring issue that posed a fire risk. The NHTSA had warned that the wiring in the sun visor could be incorrectly routed or excessively taped, leading to potential hazards.
For more information, consumers can contact Ford’s customer service department at 1-866-436-7332 and the reference recall number 26S30. Vehicle owners can also verify if their vehicle is affected by searching their model on NHTSA.gov.
Ford says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
