Ford recall & advisory overview:
- Who: Ford is recalling 4,653 2021-2026 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022-2026 Maverick vehicles.
- Why: The urgent recall is due to a potential defect in the front suspension ball joint, triggering a Do-Not-Drive advisory.
- Where: The Ford recall and advisory is active in the United States.
Ford has issued a Do-Not-Drive advisory and is recalling 4,653 Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles, specifically model years 2021-2026 for the Bronco Sport and years 2022-2026 for the Maverick.
The Ford recall and advisory was issued on May 27 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under recall number 26V-340 and published by Ford on June 1.
The issue is due to a critical defect in the front suspension ball joint. The front lower control arm ball joints may have been incorrectly installed at the factory, leading to potential separation from the wheel knuckle.
“If a partially engaged ball joint separates while the vehicle is moving, the driver can lose control of the vehicle,” the Ford recall says.
Ford to provide free towing service for recalled vehicles
Ford is taking a proactive approach by offering free inspections and repairs to affected vehicles. The company is also covering towing costs to ensure that owners do not drive their vehicles to the dealership, thereby mitigating any risk of accidents.
The inspection process involves checking the ball joint attachment on both sides of the front suspension. If any defects are found, repairs will be made at no cost to the vehicle owner.
Ford began notifying owners on June 5, but vehicle identification numbers can already be checked on the NHTSA website.
For more information about the recall, vehicle owners can contact Ford directly at 1-833-807-3673 for assistance with towing and scheduling inspections. The Ford recall number is 26S36, and owners can also use the Ford recall information tool.
Ford states it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall and advisory so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Back in April, Ford issued a recall for 62,255 Ford Bronco SUVs and 117,443 Ford Ranger pickup trucks due to a defect in the front seat frame that may pose a safety risk during a crash.

6 thoughts onFord issues urgent Do-Not-Drive advisory for certain Bronco Sport and Maverick models
We purchased a 2023 Bronco Sport Badlands edition. We purchased it because I have spinal injuries and can only really be comfortable in a full size truck especially when it comes to being in it for longer than an hour. We couldn’t afford a truck anymore especially after covid. The Bronco seat was far enough up off the floor to give me decent support and was much cheaper than a full sized truck. Luckily our vehicle wasn’t part of the do not drive recall. We did however have a block heater recall recently done and a seat belt and rear back up camera recall yet to be done. When we first got it the air conditioner compressor completely imploded internally and started smoking like crazy. We had to have it towed to the dealership and it sat there for a month until they could get a new one. They did give us a loaner however. I have had to install many parts that the vehicle shipped without paying out of pocket for most of them. On a Bronco forum I am part of there is a list of items the vehicles shipped without some of them important items some not so important but still should have been included. I have done all but 2 of them. Ford should have let people know this and offer to install them when available when available at the very least. They chose however to ship them and hope people didn’t notice. That just ruined me forever on Fords and I will not buy another one. It’s pretty bad when you have to pay a stupid price for a vehicle and not get the whole vehicle and assemble the rest of it yourself after buying it. The dealership did pay for what’s called a hush panel that vovers the heater blower motor on the passenger side and is insulated to keep the noise down and keep your feet from kicking Wires under the dash. Everything else I had to pay for and install. JUST AN AWFUL VEHICLE .
What Bronco forum? My 22 Bronco Sport Big Bend was not included in the recall but last week, at low speed (10-15mph), less that 50 yards from my house, the steering went out like the lane assist took over and it crashed into my neighbor’s mailbox and immediately flipped over.
The Sport is made in Mexico Do I need to say more The The other Bronco model is made in the GOOD OLD USA
I purchased my 2021 Bronco Sport in January 2026. I recently started getting a ‘4WD Fault’ error. Ford wants $4500 to fix it! This isn’t right.
After all these years building vehicles they still can’t get it right?? Something doesn’t add up.
I have a ‘21 Bronco Sport and the amount of recalls on this vehicle have been atrocious. I would trade it in, in a heartbeat if a could but due to regular depreciation on top of depreciation from the recalls, I’m so upside down on the loan it would be financially impossible. This is the second do not drive alert on them in the last year. The first one, possible cracked fuel injector, has yet to have a fix. The brakes in reverse intermittently make a terrible squealing noise. I’ve had all parts of the brakes replaced and nothing helps. Ford is aware of the issue but has not issued a fix on that either. I cannot wait to get this paid off and never buy a ford again.
