Chrysler Infotainment Systems Class Action Lawsuit Overview:
- Who: A federal judge trimmed a consolidated class action lawsuit filed against FCA US LLC by drivers.
- Why: Drivers claim FCA sold certain Chrysler minivans and sedans containing defective infotainment systems prone to malfunctioning.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Michigan federal court.
A federal judge in Michigan won’t allow drivers to represent a nationwide Class in a consolidated class action lawsuit filed over Chrysler minivans and sedans containing infotainment systems prone to malfunctioning.
Consumers will still be able to pursue consumer protection claims state-based breach of warranty claims, among others, according to the judge’s opinion and order.
Drivers argued in a class action lawsuit filed against FCA US LLC that 2017-2019 Chrysler Pacifica minivans and Chrysler 300 sedans contained defective infotainment systems that were prone to automatically resetting and freezing.
The systems also contained navigation services and a back-up camera feature that would malfunction, drivers claimed.
The judge agreed with FCA that plaintiffs had not alleged injuries in states outside of where they lived or purchased the vehicles, however, and thus can not represent a nationwide Class.
“The named plaintiffs here do not allege injuries in states other than their own or base their claims on the application of other states’ laws,” the judge said in the order. “Plaintiffs therefore lack standing to bring claims on behalf of a nationwide class.”
Breach of express and implied warranty claims were upheld by the judge however. Those claims are based on state laws in Alabama, California, Florida, Michigan, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.
The judge also agreed with the drivers’ assertion that the defect made the vehicles unsafe to drive, unfit for their original purpose, and below the expectations of quality expected, according to the opinion and order.
The majority of drivers’ fraud claims were also upheld, with drivers claiming FCA knew about the defect but failed to inform its customers about the issue.
A separate class action lawsuit filed against FCA arguing the company sold certain vehicles containing faulty gearshifts was allowed to continue earlier this month.

2018 Chrysler 300 driver/owner here.
-Touchscreen still glitches, and has been doing so for a long time
-Faded and unsafe to use for driving (example -going in reverse)
-Inoperable partially (can see/work some things but not all)
-Other issues with the screen
-What’s taking Chrysler so long to recall?

My truck came with a one-year free trail (SXM). It came with the stupid “Weather alerts”. There was no way to make them stop. They would go off while I was driving in heavy traffic. I finally got rid of them by calling SXM and telling them to keep the stupid service.
After that my radio was “cured”.
I own a 2019 Chrysler 300S. i had a solo car accident in Los Angeles because of a malfunctioning dashboard infotainment cluster panel caused the inside of my car to completely go black in the middle of the night on the 405 freeway.
I own a 2018 Chrysler 300S; Infotainment system started going bad… Random radio changes, backup camera view is sporadic, can’t use the USB ports for music. When I try to use the USB Ports, the docking station gets hot and then the system starts skipping thru whatever screen I’m on…
I own a 2018 jeepgrand Cherokee that has the same screen issue. Fca will not replace out of warranty. This is clearly a safety issue as it distracts the driver and prevents the rear view camera from working.
I own a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica and have had several problems with the uconnect system. Dealership couldn’t “recreate the problem” several times, informed me there was no updates available even though my system had failed to receive any over-the-air updates since 2019 and was already several versions out of date. The dealership couldn’t explain why it wasn’t updating properly. the entire system, including the screen and all system controls, ended up failing, rendering my car inoperable and completely draining the battery overnight. This ultimately required me to replace both the TIPM and the entire uconnect system costing me over $2400. I didn’t have use of my vehicle for several weeks while I waited for diagnosis and parts to arrive. Nothing was covered under warranty and I was not provided a rental car. This is a family vehicle and is our only means of transportation.
I’ve kept meticulous records and have all documentation and record of phone calls made to the dealership, service department, FCA, and to uconnect customer support.
My 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee had the same issue. The dealer swapped out the radio at no cost to me. The problem was solved. Exactly why is a lawsuit needed? Oh, let me guess, the greedy lawyers need money?
I own a 2018 Dodge Charger that has the same problem!! The screen will just freeze and nothing works. The backup camera has also stuck on while driving down the freeway! It’s sooooo frustrating! And for what I paid for this car, it’s ridiculous that they can’t fix it. Especially when dodge is very aware of this problem.
