Porsche Taycan Recall Overview:

  • Who: Porsche issued a recall for nearly 12,000 of its 2020-2021 Porsche Taycan vehicles.
  • Why: Porsche says the Taycan vehicles were built with pre-collision automatic hazard warning lights that may violate federal US safety standards.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide.

Porsche has issued a recall for nearly 12,000 Porsche Taycan vehicles manufactured with pre-collision automatic hazard warning lights that it says can activate unnecessarily.

The recall affects model year 2020-2021 Porsche Taycan vehicles, according to Porsche, which says that, while the lights work as designed, they can confuse other drivers by activating in non-emergency situations, reports CarComplaints.com.

Porsche was informed of the problem in August by engineers who, after looking into the pre-collision automatic hazard warning lights, found their propensity to automatically activate may not align with federal US safety standards.

Porsche Taycan Not up to Code

Taycan drivers are able to detect if their vehicles have pre-collision automatic hazard warning lights by paying attention to their turn signal lights and hazard warning controls, which will alert them if the hazard warning lights are activated, reports CarComplaints.com.

Porsche, which claims the pre-collision automatic hazard warning lights are up to code in other, non-US markets, says it will be mailing a recall notice to Taycan owners on Dec. 13.

Taycan drivers can fix the issue by taking their vehicles to a Porsche dealer who will reprogram them to remove the pre-collision automatic hazard warning lights function, the company says, reports CarComplaints.com.

Porsche recently agreed to pay nearly $299,000 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging a Florida Porsche dealer accepted unfair single-payment lease agreements.

The company is also facing a class action lawsuit over claims an unauthorized software update permanently damaged thousands of vehicles’ infotainment systems.
