Coca-Cola rewards program class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Glenn Coe filed a class action lawsuit against The Coca-Cola Co.
  • Why: Coe claims Coca-Cola runs an unlawful rewards program since it doesn’t offer anything of actual value to consumers.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court.

The Coca-Cola Co. sells products with rewards program codes that do not actually benefit consumers, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Glenn Coe claims Coca-Cola’s reward program only allows consumers to donate their accumulated rewards to preselected charities of the company’s choice.

Coe argues Coca-Cola’s reward codes are effectively unlawful “trading stamps”  since consumers are unable to actually redeem them for anything of value.

“Defendant continues to sell Coke products with reward codes even though the only benefit is to donate their accumulated value to one of its selected nonprofit groups,” the Coca-Cola class action states.

Coe argues Coca-Cola’s rewards program is marketed “contrary to state law” due to it not having “legibly printed upon (their) face a cash value determined by the company in cents or any fraction thereof.”

Coca-Cola class action claims consumers unable to redeem codes for cash

Due to not having a stated cash value, consumers are unable to redeem the codes for cash when presenting them to the company, the Coca-Cola class action alleges.

“This requirement was designed to prevent customers, like Plaintiff, from being left without any value in the event of their accumulation of non-redeemable reward codes,” the class action states.

Coe claims Coca-Cola is guilty of unjust enrichment, negligent representation and fraud and in violation of multiple state consumer fraud acts, the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act and New York General Business Law

Coe wants to represent a New York class and a multistate consumer fraud subclass of individuals who have purchased a Coca-Cola product that came with a rewards code.

He demands a jury trial and requests injunctive relief along with monetary, statutory and/or punitive damages for himself and all class members.

A consumer filed a separate class action against Coca-Cola last month over claims the company failed to properly pay its workers following last year’s hack of Kronos’ timekeeping systems.

The Coca-Cola rewards program class action lawsuit is Coe v. The Coca-Cola Co., Case No. 1:22-cv-00430, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York.

I have a thousand codes too saved for years. For years I’ve had codes say expired or codes that were unreadable and they were happy to only replace 2 codes be year!!!
What a joke! Yes count me in!

  2. Ryan Rognstad says:

I have bags and bags and bags of codes from about 6 years of drinking diet coke daily. It used to be such a good program and now its a complete joke and a rip-off. I would love to be involved anyway I can. I live in MN and the lawsuit was filed in NY.

So disappointed, I have tons of bags from family collecting for me and now they are worthless.

  6. Twyla DeBartolo says:

I have an XL bag still filled with codes. Unable to use them. How can they just stop this program like that?

  7. Michael Zimmermann says:

Just goes to show that the little ppl that made them the multi-billion dollar company are the ones left holding these useless codes. I remember in the 90s & early 2000’s there were many company’s offering select items with there company logo on them that could be bought with rewards points/codes. But the big joke is we’re continuing to buy their products & those codes could only be used towards a list they picked and we narrowed down to 1 to give our points too… some ppl buy certain brands cause of a rewards program that benefits them buying more & more said products… Guess things changed when the cost is too high from china to order said rewards items. Better to just walk to a busy city corner and throw money up in the air and yell free money. Until ppl pick it up and take a better look at it that it reads on the “bill” ***FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY*** that’s basically what coke is doing to the ppl who make that company what it is today!!! I had several Grocery bags full of codes to enter they weren’t light and eventually when I found out that I wasn’t gonna be getting anything for entering my codes I threw those bags out had to be atleast 600-700 codes if not more.. such a shame I’ve actually stopped drinking their products around that time also and once in a while if they are out of what I usually get I’ll bring myself to buy a coke product only cuz that’s all that’s available… thanks please include me in any class action suit!!!

  8. Daniel says:

I have collected many codes over the years. I would prefer to get a free drink or a monetary reward. I don’t want my funds going to a tax write off for Coke.

  9. Pamela Verrett says:

Yes I did coke and sprite rewards until now.. I believe they are frauds cause I still had like over 250 codes I just threw away last year

  10. David Yoon says:

I too have collected points for many years and now have no way to use them but donate.
