- Where: The Adobe class action was filed in California federal court.
A new class action lawsuit accuses Adobe Inc. of misleading consumers about the terms and conditions of its Adobe subscription services.
Two plaintiffs, Stephanie Wohlfiel and Vianca Marquez, filed the class action complaint against Adobe Inc. on Aug. 4 in a California federal court, alleging violations of state consumer laws.
The lawsuit also claims Adobe intentionally designed its enrollment process to hide material terms and make cancellation difficult, further trapping consumers in unwanted subscription services.
The plaintiffs allege Adobe obscures key terms like subscription duration, renewal conditions and cancellation policies, leaving consumers unaware of what they’re signing up for.
Adobe’s practices violate California consumer protection laws, conversion, unjust enrichment, negligent misrepresentation and fraud, the lawsuit alleges.
Class action: Adobe’s enrollment process fails to clearly disclose material terms
Adobe’s subscription model, which includes monthly, annual billed monthly and annual prepaid plans, is designed to mislead consumers, the plaintiffs say.
The lawsuit alleges Adobe’s enrollment process fails to clearly and conspicuously disclose material terms of its annual billed monthly plan, including the one-year commitment, early termination fee and the relationship between the fee and the contract.
Adobe’s subscription plans often appear to be monthly, but they actually require an annual commitment, the plaintiffs say. Consumers who cancel early face hefty “early termination fees” (ETFs), the lawsuit says.
“Adobe’s deception was no accident,” the complaint claims, citing an Adobe executive who reportedly referred to the hidden ETF as being “a bit like heroin for Adobe.”
The plaintiffs allege Adobe’s cancellation procedures are intentionally burdensome, making it difficult for consumers to escape unwanted subscriptions.
The lawsuit seeks to represent all consumers who incurred early termination fees or paid the full annual contract for an Adobe subscription within the past four years.
The plaintiffs are suing for violations of California’s Unfair Competition Law, False Advertising Law and Consumers Legal Remedies Act, as well as conversion, unjust enrichment and negligent misrepresentation.
They are seeking certification of the Adobe class action, damages, restitution, disgorgement, injunctive relief, fees, costs and a jury trial.
In another Adobe class action filed earlier this year, plaintiffs accuse the company of secretly tracking and monetizing consumers’ online data without their knowledge or consent.

This is my third time with Adobe . I had to ask for a refund. And they refused to give me the refunds but the last time. I last month just went through it again. I have the receipt and I have the copies
Add me to the Adobe class action lawsuit please
TLDR: I lost at least a solid $60-$80 to Adobe and would like to be added to the class action lawsuit.
Longer explanation:
I would like to be added to the Adobe class action lawsuit. I subscribed to a student monthly plan. After about three months of use, I tried to cancel at which point I was presented with a fee of $76. Note that the student plan was only about $20 per month. It also said that I had to wait another 3-4 months to avoid the cancellation fee. At that point, I decided to just wait out the period and continue the $20 subscription despite not even needing to use it for that amount of time. At the end of the period, I returned to cancel the subscription. They still tried to charge me $54 for early cancellation despite their cancellation terms saying that past that point, I shouldn’t have a fee. I called customer service about it, and instead of ending the subscription or offering a refund, they consistently tried to offer me new benefits and free extensions to the program. I initially took a one free month subscription. I checked again and once again the cancellation fee went down, but was still in existence. I called customer service again about it and the man on the other end said there was not much he could do other than offer a free 3 month subscription. I insisted on cancelling, especially considering I didn’t have the $20 to spare that month, but was told I would have to pay the cancellation fee. So, I took the three month free extension. By the end of the three month extension, it had been well over a year (A year and six months) since I had started the subscription. According to their annual paid monthly terms – which this plan was not at all supposed to be – I shouldn’t have had to pay any cancellation fees at that point. What it took for me to finally cancel this plan was to attach the account (at the end of that three month extension) to a card that I had no money on. The next month, I paid $30 – the subscription plus a fee for not having the payment on time- to cancel with no extra fee. I will never go back to adobe and if it wasn’t for a mixture of customer service negotiations and using the card that I did, I would likely be in credit card debt over this subscription.
