At least 43,000 tables made by Lifetime Products that were sold at CostCo and other major retailers in Canada and the United States are being voluntarily recalled due to a risk of collapsing.
The Lifetime 6-foot Seminar Table was found to have a potential hazard around the brace arms of the table, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) said in a recall notice Wednesday.
“The brace arms can fail to lock the table legs into place and the table can collapse, posing an injury risk to consumers,” it said.
Lifetime Products does not currently face legal action over the tables, but Top Class Actions tracks recalls because they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
While no injuries have been reported so far, any owners of the 6-foot long table are being warned to immediately stop using the product. The USCPSC said about 43,000 tables were being recalled in the United States.
In the United States, the tables were sold online at Amazon.com, Costco.com, Samsclub.com and other websites from Aug. 2016 through Nov. 2020 for about $90, the USCPSC said. They were also sold at Lifetime Stores in Utah and Idaho.
Costco Canada also published a recall notice, asking customers to immediately stop using the table. Affected customers were advised to contact Lifetime Products for a free repair kit, or to return the table to a Costco warehouse to obtain a full refund. It did not say how many tables were being recalled in Canada.
The recall was issued after the manufacturer received a report from a customer about 11 tables that had brace arms that weren’t properly locking into place, the USCPSC said.

This recall is one of many that have been made since the start of 2021. On Tuesday, a Home Depot dining chair was being pulled from shelves after consumers reported the back breaking off the base during use.
Last year, Costco’s Bayside Furnishings Lawler 9-piece dining sets were recalled by the manufacturer due to concerns that the chairs could break and lead to falls.
Another common furniture recall is seen in dressers that pose a tip over risk. According to Consumer Reports, dressers can tip over if weight is placed on the front of the drawers. This often occurs when children climb the front of the dresser or play inside a drawer, causing it to tip and potentially causing serious injuries.
