Home Depot chair recalled over detaching back

A Home Depot dining chair is being pulled from shelves after consumers reported the back breaking off the base during use.

Issued on Feb. 25, 2021, the recall includes StyleWell Wood Windsor Dining Chair Sets sold by The Home Depot in sets of two between September of 2019 and January of 2020, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Although this is not a class action lawsuit, Top Class Actions will monitor and report recalls affecting consumer safety to keep viewers informed.

“The chair’s back can detach, posing a fall hazard to consumers,” warns the agency’s notice. CPSC’s website also indicates that federal law prohibits the resale of recalled products.

The chair comes in black, white, red, and natural wood colors and retailed for approximately $150.

“The chair seat base measures about 17.5 inches wide, 17.5 inches deep and 17 inches tall.  The chair’s back measures about 19 inches wide and 18 inches tall from the top of the chair seat base.  Each chair weighs about 15 pounds,” states the CPSC recall notice, which also notes that the chairs were manufactured in China.

No injuries have been reported; however, The Home Depot says that it has gotten 17 reports of the chair back breaking off.

CPSC says that over 3,000 of the recalled chairs were sold.

Home Depot is reportedly offering a refund to owners of the recalled chair.

Consumers with questions can contact the company at 800-466-3337, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 8 pm or on Saturday between 8 am and 6 pm. Consumers can also obtain more information on the recall page of The Home Depot website

CPSC reports that Home Depot will be contacting affected customers with instructions.

Consumer product incidents, including property damage, injuries, and even deaths, cost American consumers over $1 trillion annually, says the CPSC. Indeed, Home Depot has recalled several other products this year, including the SmartPool Bee Free Children’s Helmet, Décor Therapy Charna Natural Wood One Drawers and Shelf Entryway Valets, Noble House Furnishings Chests and Cabinets, Victory Innovations Electrostatic Sprayers, Toro Power Max Snow Blowers, and Rust-Oleum Professional Bright Galvanizing Compound Spray.
