National Presto is recalling Presto indoor electric smokers due to a potential electric shock hazard to consumers.
The home appliance company issued the voluntary recall Wednesday, warning owners to immediately stop using the indoor smokers after receiving reports of smokers having a potential defect that caused circuit breakers and outlets to trip. This could create a shock hazard for users.
National Presto does not currently face legal action over the electric smokers, but Top Class Actions tracks recalls because they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
The smokers, which are used to prepare smoked meat, fish and vegetables, were sold at Shopko, Sears, Kmart, Belk, Veterans Canteen Store and other home appliance stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Wayfair.com, Kohls.com and Walmart.com and other online sites from June 2018 through December 2020. The smoker is made in China and sells for between $70 and $110.
As of the recall date, there have been no reports of injury or property damage, however, Presto announced the recall out of an abundance of caution. The affected smokers are sold in black stainless steel and camouflage finishes, model numbers 0601304 and 0601405.
Individuals who purchased the Presto Indoor Electric Smokers are advised to stop using them immediately and return to the place of purchase for a full refund. Customers can verify whether their smoker is being recalled on the National Presto website, and file for a prepaid shipping label to return their smoker. The model number is displayed on a sticker located on the underside of the smoker.
Customers with additional questions were advised to call National Presto toll-free at 833-909-1524 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or online at www.gopresto.com/recall or www.gopresto.com and click “Recall Alert” to complete the on-line recall.
Presto’s indoor electric smokers are not the first products to be recalled over a potential shock hazard or fire risk. Earlier this month a recall was made on more than 400,000 models of Victory Innovations and Protexus-branded electrostatic disinfectant sprayers after it was discovered that the rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs they are powered by can overheat, possibly catching fire.
