400,000 models of Victory Innovation’s electrostatic disinfectant sprayers recalled

Beware of how you sanitize your property for COVID-19, consumers, electric-powered disinfectant sprayers are catching fire.

More than 400,000 models of Victory Innovations and Protexus-branded electrostatic disinfectant sprayers have been recalled after it was discovered that the rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs they are powered by can overheat, possibly catching fire.

The U.S. Consumer Producer Safety Commission issued the official recall alert Wednesday.

At least 37 reports have been filed so far on the issue, according to the product safety regulator. Some of the cases reportedly involved actual fire and property damage.

Victory Innovations currently faces no litigation regarding this recall, but Top Class Actions is tracking alerts regarding product safety for relevant developments.

The recall alert affects green and white Victory Innovation branded sprayers with model numbers VP-20A or VP-20B. The recalled Protexus sprayers are black and white and have the model numbers PX20A or PX20B.

The alert notes the recalled batteries packs have exposed screw heads and a case without parting lines.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says 405,000 units were sold in the U.S. and an additional 27,000 in Canada in retail stores and online.

Consumers are advised to stop using the sprayers immediately and properly dispose of the battery. Owners of the recalled Victory Innovations or Protexus electric sprayer are also being asked to get in touch with Victory Innovations directly for a replacement free of charge.

Consumers who have any questions about the recall can reach out to Victory Innovations via phone at 888-674-2482, or via email to ES-Sprayerbatteryrecall@stericycle.com.

The electric sprayers containing the faulty battery were sold between Jan. 2016 and Nov. 2020, with the product including a nozzle, wrench and tank, along with the lithium-ion battery and a charger.

The products retail between $100 and $150.

Victory Innovations, headquartered in Twinsburg, Ohio, imports the electric sprayers from China, according to the Consumer Protection Safety Commission.
