Chrysler has recalled more than 44,000 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer vehicles, as the airbags can fail to deploy properly, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
The recall was published on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website Aug. 3. It applies to 44,708 model year 2022-2023 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer vehicles.
According to the recall notice, the upper B-pillar interior trim in the vehicles may not be fully seated and could interfere with the side curtain airbag (SABIC) deployment in the event of a crash.
“A compromised deployment of the SABIC can reduce occupant protection in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury,” the recall notice states.
Wagoneers do not comply with federal standards
The deployment issue means that the vehicles do not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 226, “Ejection Mitigation,” the notice says.
The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
To remedy the issue, dealers will inspect and reseat or replace the trim pieces as necessary, free of charge, the recall states.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 22, 2023.

I’m not impacted by Chrysler but I heard Volkswagon Atlas is having a similar problem. Their answer to the issue is to not let anyone sit in the front passenger seat because they don’t have a fix for it.
