Target Pillowfort recall overview:

  • Who: Target recalled around 204,000 of its Pillowfort brand weighted blankets.
  • Why: The retailer initiated the recall following the deaths of two young girls who suffocated after unzipping the weighted blanket and becoming trapped in its cover.
  • Where: The Target recall is applicable nationwide.

Target recalled around 204,000 of its Pillowfort brand weighted blankets following the deaths of two children who suffocated after becoming entrapped in its cover.

Target initiated the recall over concerns a young child can become entrapped and suffocate if they unzip and enter the blanket, according to a recall published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Dec. 22.

In addition to the deaths of the two young children, girls ages 4 and 6, Target says it received two other reports of children becoming trapped in the weighted blankets, according to the Pillowfort recall.

Target and the CPSC urge consumers to immediately stop using the recalled weighted blankets, which came in pink, blue, gray, buffalo plaid red, blue constellation, space navy, unicorn white and unicorn pink colors, and to contact Target to obtain a refund.

Recalled Pillowfort weighted blankets sold exclusively at Target

The recalled Pillowfort brand weighted blankets were sold exclusively at Target locations nationwide and online at Target’s website for $40 from between December 2018 and September 2022, according to the Target recall.

Consumers with more questions about the recall can contact Target directly by phone at 800-440-0680 or online

Target initiated a separate recall earlier this month for some of its Cloud Island brand plush toy sets over concerns the toy’s wheels could detach and present a choking hazard for young children.
