Skittles, Starburst, Life Savers Metal Recall Overview:
- Who: Mars Wrigley has announced a recall of specific varieties of Skittles, Starbursts and Life Savers Gummies.
- Why: The gummies may contain a “thin metal strand.”
- Where: The recall is effective in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Mars Wrigley is recalling some Skittles, Starbursts and Life Savers gummies after consumers alerted the company that they may contain a “thin metal strand.”
The company announced the recall May 13 on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website.
The recall applies to certain specific varieties of SKITTLES® Gummies, STARBURST® Gummies and LIFE SAVERS® Gummies with the specific varieties available here, the company states.
The gummies are being recalled “due to the potential presence of a very thin metal strand embedded in the gummies or loose in the bag,” the recall notice says.
Mars Wrigley initiated the recall following reports from consumers.
The company said it was not aware of any illnesses to date. It is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Skittles, Starburst, Life Savers Gummies Made By Third Party, Recall Notice Says
A third party manufactured and distributed the products in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the recall states.
Mars Wrigley Confectionery US, LLC said it will work with retailers to remove recalled products from store shelves.
“If consumers believe they have purchased a recalled item, they should dispose of the product and not consume it,” the recall says.
In February, a lawsuit alleging Mars deceptively advertises its Dove ice cream bars was thrown out by a New York federal judge without leave to amend.
