Furniture restraint kits recall overview:

  • Who: New Age Industries is recalling millions of its furniture tip kits or tip restraints.
  • Why: The furniture tip-over kits include a plastic zip tie that can become brittle or break and result in a furniture tip-over that can cause furniture detachment and lead to entrapment, death or serious injuries, the recall says.
  • Where: The furniture tip-over recall is effective across the United States.

New Age Industries is recalling millions of its furniture restraint kits or tip restraints because a plastic zip tie in the kit can break and cause a furniture detachment or tip-over incident.

The furniture tip-over recall kits are included along with some of the furniture sold by American Drew, American Woodcrafters, Amini Innovation Corporation, Ashley Furniture Industries, Aspenhome, Austin Group Furniture, Avalon International, Bassett Furniture, Drew and Jonathan by Hooker Furnishings, Emery Park, FD Home Corp., Flexsteel Industries, Furniture Values International, Homelegance USA, Hooker Furnishings, Kincaid Furniture, LC Direct Furniture, Legacy Classic/Modern Furniture, Liberty Furniture Industries, Magnussen Home Furnishings, New Classic Home Furnishings, Parker House Furniture, Progressive Furniture, Pulaski Furniture, Riverside Furniture, Samuel Lawrence, Springhill Designs, Standard Furniture Manufacturing Co., Universal Furniture, Van Thiel & Co. and Vanguard Furniture Co.

The furniture tip-over kits included a plastic zip tie, two brackets and two screws and were included with clothing storage sold in November 2019 or later where the bottom of the packaging states “Manufactured by New Age Industries.”

Keep children away from furniture until replacement tip-over kit arrives

New Age Industries says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall so far but there were two reports of the restraints breaking. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Customers with the recalled tip-over kits are asked to contact Alliance4Safety at 855-416-7370 anytime or online for a free replacement tip kit. Until then, consumers are asked to keep children away from the unit due to the furniture detachment risk.

J Grubbs Designs issued a December 2023 recall for 12,275 Windsor Queen Xtrabed Mobile Murphy Beds due to a risk of the beds breaking when opened from the front and a tip-over risk.
