Kodiak tobacco recall overview: 

  • Who: American Snuff Company is recalling certain lots of Kodiak Premium WIntergreen Longcut Tobacco. 
  • Why: The tobacco could include small pieces of metal after an issue with manufacturing equipment created metal-to-metal abrasion.
  • Where: The Kodiak tobacco recall impacts tobacco from its Clarksville, Tennessee, facility then distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

American Snuff Company is recalling certain lots of Kodiak Premium WIntergreen Longcut Tobacco due to the potential for the tobacco to include small pieces of metal.

The Kodiak recall comes after an issue was found with manufacturing equipment at the company’s Clarksville, Tennessee, facility that created metal-to-metal abrasion that could have resulted in metal shavings coming in contact with the tobacco.

The tobacco recall includes cans marked with specific codes. The letters in the codes marked “x” are not relevant to identifying if the can is being recalled.

The codes are marked on the bottom of the can. The Kodiak recall includes: GxxxxlK3, GxxBxJK3,  GxxAxJK or GxxCxJK3.

Don’t open can involved in tobacco recall, company says

American Snuff Company says it has not received any reports of issues related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

The company asks consumers to not open or use cans involved in the tobacco recall. Instead, contact American Snuff Company at 1-866-843-0636 to return the product for a refund, report any adverse events or submit a complaint.

Six Vuse Alto brand e-cigarette varieties have been banned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration after the group determined they were not appropriate for public health and don’t have an added benefit for adults that outweighed the known risks to youth.
