Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream recalled some of its Outshine No Sugar Added Strawberry Fruit Bars as the product may contain an undeclared milk allergen.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website published the recall July 17. It applies to six-count packages of Outshine No Sugar Added Strawberry Fruit Bars with batch numbers LLA317822 and LLA317922 and a best-buy date of Sept. 30, 2024.
According to the recall, the fruit bars may contain an undeclared milk allergen.
“Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the recall states.
No illnesses or injuries have been reported so far, the recall notice says. It is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Faulty valve may have allowed trace levels of milk, Outshine recall notice states
Dreyer’s shipped the affected products to Krogers in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky; Shoprites in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware and New Jersey; and Walmarts in Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama and Louisiana.
While its investigation is ongoing, Dreyer’s says it believes a faulty valve allowed trace levels of milk to be introduced into the product, according to the Outshine recall notice.
Consumers with a milk allergy or sensitivity who have purchased the affected product should not consume it. They should instead dispose of it or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund, the notice states.
Dreyer’s products have also faced lawsuits. In 2021, an Illinois federal dismissed claims alleging Dreyer’s misled its customers into thinking the coating on its Haagen-Dazs ice cream bars contained only milk chocolate and no vegetable oils.
