Mercedes-Benz USA announced a recall for 11,853 model year 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 vehicles over concerns a trailer hitch defect could cause the vehicles to detach from a tow truck in the event they are towed.
The automaker says the front tow eye on the recalled Mercedes-Benz GLC300 vehicles may have been “inadequately threaded” to the crossmember, causing it to potentially detach during towing.
“A detached tow eye can separate the vehicle from the tow truck, increasing the risk of a crash or injury,” Mercedes-Benz says in a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) from earlier this month.
Mercedes-Benz to replace front crossmember free of charge, recall letter says
Mercedes-Benz says it plans to remedy the issue by having its dealers inspect and replace the front crossmember on the recalled GLC300 vehicles free of charge.
The automaker says it plans to notify owners by letter by Nov. 10, according to its letter to the NHTSA.
Mercedes-Benz issued a separate recall for certain of its C300 vehicles in July over concerns it, along with some of its AMG C43 sedans, may contain a transmission wiring harness defect that could cause them to experience a loss of drive power.
