Johnsonville LLC has issued a recall of more than 42,000 pounds of ready-to-eat pork sausage links, as they may contain black plastic fibers.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website published the recall June 15. It applies to approximately 42,062 pounds of ready-to-eat pork sausage links sold in 14-oz. vacuum-packed packages of Johnsonville Beddar with Cheddar Smoked Sausage links made with 100% premium pork, with a best-by date of July 7, 2023, printed on the back.

According to the recall, the pork sausage links may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically thin strands of black plastic fibers.

Johnsonville discovered the problem after it received a consumer complaint, the sausage recall states.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the product so far, Johnsonville says. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Do not consume sausage links, Johnsonville recall advises

Consumers who purchased the Johnsonville sausage links should not consume them, the company says.

“This product should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the Johnsonville sausage recall notice states.

The company shipped the products to retail locations in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Texas.

In February, Daniele International LLC recalled more than 26 tons of sausage products as they may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
