Chrysler recalled more than 331,000 of its Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles as the rear coil springs can detach while driving.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website published the recall June 8. It applies to 114,302 model year 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 217,099 model year 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L SUVS.

According to the notice, the rear coil springs may have been incorrectly installed in the vehicles and can detach from the vehicle while driving.

“Rear coil springs that detach from the vehicle while driving increases the risk of a crash,” the Jeep coil springs recall states.

As of May 25, Chrysler was not aware of any injuries related to the defect.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Dealers to inspect, repair affected vehicles, Jeep coil springs recall states

Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, repair the rear coil spring assemblies free of charge, the recall states.

Chrysler will mail notification letters to owners of these vehicles by July 28, it says. The company estimates 13% of the vehicles under recall have a defect.

Meanwhile, a new class action lawsuit alleges FCA US LLC manufactures and sells certain Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles with a dangerous defect that makes their windshields prone to cracking, fracturing or chipping.
