Adamis SYMJEPI Injection Recall Alert Overview:

  • Who: Adamis Pharmaceuticals Corporation is recalling certain lots of its SYMJEPI (epinephrine) injections.
  • Why: The company says the needle can potentially clog while consumers are trying to dispense the life-saving medicine.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide.

A potentially life-saving injection used to treat allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock is being recalled due to several reports of the syringe clogging.

Adamis Pharmaceuticals Corporation announced Mar. 21 that it is recalling certain lots of its SYMJEPI injections.

The recall applies to certain batches of the SYMJEPI (epinephrine) Injection 0.15 mg and 0.3 mg Pre-Filled Single-Dose Syringes with the batch numbers available here.

The company said it was issuing the recall due to the potential clogging of the needle preventing the dispensing of epinephrine.

Anyone who has the affected product should “stop using the products immediately and may either return or discard the recalled lots,” the company says.

If a person is experiencing an allergic reaction or anaphylaxis and is unable to access life-saving epinephrine due to the syringe malfunction, it can lead to life-threatening consequences, including death, the company says.

“Although not confirmed to be related to the recall, there have been two different customer complaints on three syringes regarding difficulty in dispensing the product to date,” Adamis Pharmaceuticals says.

Neither distributor US WorldMeds nor Adamis Pharmaceuticals had received, or was aware of, any adverse events related to this recall, the companies say.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

SYMJEPI Distributed Nationwide to Consumers, Medical Facilities

SYMJEPI is typically used in the emergency treatment of allergic reactions like anaphylaxis to stinging insects and biting insects, as well as allergen immunotherapy, foods, drugs, diagnostic testing substances and other allergens.

The products are packaged in 2-count Pre-Filled Single-Dose Syringes per carton and were distributed nationwide in the USA directly to customers and medical facilities.

The products can be identified by the label containing the US WorldMeds name and logo pictured in the recall here

US WorldMeds is notifying its customers by email, U.S. Food and Drug Administration alerts and direct outreach. The companies did not say if a refund was available.

The news comes as Pfizer announced this week it is recalling 11 lots of hypertension medications distributed by itself and by the company Greenstone, as it contains too much of the carcinogenic chemical compound nitrosamine.
