Gorton’s Fish Sandwich Bone Fragments Recall Overview:

  • Who: Gorton’s Seafood is recalling batches of frozen fish sandwiches.
  • Why: There may be large and sharp bone fragments in the sandwiches.
  • Where: The recall affects supermarkets in multiple states and Puerto Rico.

Gorton’s Seafood is recalling more than 500 packs of fish sandwiches as the fish may contain large, sharp pieces of bone.

The recall was issued Apr. 28 on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website and applies to the frozen seafood item Gorton’s Fish Sandwich – 100% Whole Fillets, 18.3 oz.

The specific reason for the recall is the “isolated and unusual potential presence of large and/or sharp bone fragments,” the notice states.

While there have been no reports of injury from the product to date, the company is taking the action to ensure the safety of consumers, Gorton’s said.

“Consumption of this recalled product may pose a choking hazard or other physical injury,” the recall notice states.

The company is recalling 504 packages of the product. The recalled product can be identified by the date code 2060F2 and time range 15:30-17:30 listed on the packets.

Gorton’s Fish Sandwiches To Be Removed From Grocery Shelves, According to Recall

All retail stores that received the recalled product have been instructed to immediately remove this item from their shelves.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

The product was distributed to Hannaford Supermarkets in New York and Vermont; Giant Food Stores and Giant Martin’s in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland; Berkley Supermarket, Farm Fresh, Food Depot, Green Valley Marketplace, Harvest Fare, Shoppers Value Foods, St Paul Grocery Market, Tiger Market, Tri-Star Supermarket and Wegmans in Maryland and Virginia; and US Military Commissaries in North Carolina, Virginia, and Puerto Rico.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product should contact Gorton’s at 1-888-573-5982.

The news comes as Gorton’s faces a class action lawsuit alleging it markets tilapia products as “sustainably sourced” when the fish is actually farmed in China using inhumane methods.
