Ford F-150 Pickup Truck Recall Overview:Â
- Who: Ford has announced a recall for nearly 250,000 of different model years of its F-150 pickup truck. It also recalled its Transit cargo van.
- Why: The company discovered that underbody heat and noise insulators may loosen and contact the aluminum driveshaft, which could damage the driveshaft and cause it to fracture
- Where: The recall is nationwide.
Ford has announced two new major recalls, which include nearly 250,000 F-150 pickup trucks of various model years and its Transit cargo van.Â
In the case of the F-150 pickup, Ford has announced it is recalling 184,698 F-150 trucks from 2021 and 2022 model years. Â
The auto giant said the reason for the recall was that underbody heat and noise insulators could loosen and touch the aluminum driveshaft, damaging the driveshaft and causing it to fracture.
A fractured driveshaft would cause a loss of drive power or a loss of vehicle control if the driveshaft touched the ground. Ford said that the trucks could also experience unintended movement while parked, if the parking brake is not engaged, increasing the risk of crash.Â
Ford is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
The solution for the problem is for truck owners to take the vehicles into their local dealer where the driveshaft will be repaired as necessary for free.
Tailgate Latches May Unlatch Unexpectedly While Driving, According To RecallÂ
The recall also involves 57,591 2018 F-150 vehicles with manual and power release tailgates.Â
The tailgate latches may unlatch unexpectedly while driving, causing the contents of the bed to spill out and cause a crash with other cars following the pickup. The fix for this is to take the vehicles to the dealer, where left-hand and right-hand tailgate latches will be replaced at no cost to the owner.Â
Ford has also recalled 4,548 of its 2020 Transit cargo vans equipped with all-wheel-drive. The bolts that attach the rear driveshaft to the transfer case may become loose or damaged, which can cause the driveshaft to separate from the transfer case, causing a loss of drive power, or unintended movement while parked if the parking brake is not engaged.
Again, vehicle owners will be able to take the vans to the dealership to have the driveshaft bolts replaced for free.
The recall comes after Ford announced a recall for nearly 115,000 of its 2021 and 2022 model Bronco Sport and Ford Escape SUVs over faulty rear brake linings earlier this month.Â
Just weeks later, on Dec. 20, Ford Motor Co. said it is recalling 2,626 all-electric Mustang Mach-E SUVs and Maverick pickup trucks in the United States over a defect which may result in a rear passenger being inadequately restrained during a crash.Â
Meanwhile, in November, Ford managed to send a class action lawsuit accusing the automaker of selling vehicles with faulty flexplates causing engine problems to arbitration with some claims dismissed.Â

One thought on Ford Recalls Nearly 250K Pickup Trucks, Plus Its Transit Cargo Van
As a long time Ford customer, I appreciate these issues are being addressed. I special ordered a 2013 F150 Limited, based upon mileage claims, which since then have never even come close to being accurate. I have never been able to get more than 12-13 mpg, despite the claims. I know there was a previous class action against Ford’s mileage claims and continue to search the Internet to see if another one has been started because my purchase year was not included in a previous class action. Love Ford, but definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth for a future purchase. Would be happy to learn someone was initiating a new claim against them because they apparently didn’t learn from their prior bad faith action to change their advertising practices.
