Food Lion, Kroger vegetable recall overview:

  • Who: Twin City Foods recalled a range of Food Lion and Kroger frozen corn and mixed vegetables.
  • Why: The products may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
  • Where: The Food Lion and Kroger vegetable recall is active in the United States.

Twin City Foods announced a recall of a range of Food Lion and Kroger frozen corn and mixed vegetables as the products may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website published the recall Aug. 22. It applies to 22 different frozen super sweet corn and mixed vegetables products sold under the Food Lion, Kroger and Signature Select brands. Consumers can view the full range of recalled products here.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

There have been no consumer reports of illness associated with eating the frozen vegetables, Twin City Foods says. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Return vegetables to store of purchase for full refund, recall states

Twin City Foods initiated the recall after one customer’s third-party lab results tested positive for listeria monocytogenes in the sweet cut corn, the vegetable recall states.

The company distributed the products nationwide.

Consumers who purchased the recalled product should not consume it and should immediately return it to the store of purchase for a full refund, the Food Lion and Kroger recall notice states.

Companies regularly test for listeria and recall products that test positive for the organism. In July, Townsend Farms announced a voluntary recall for specific frozen fruit products sold at Kroger in 16 states, as the products potentially contained mango chunks contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
