Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings (Labcorp) agreed to a $35 million class action settlement to resolve claims it failed to protect customers from a data breach at the American Medical Collection Agency (AMCA).

The Labcorp settlement benefits individuals whose personal information was shared by Labcorp with AMCA and potentially affected in the AMCA data breach between August 2018 and March 2019.

According to the data breach class action lawsuit, Labcorp should have protected consumers from the data breach at AMCA. The AMCA data breach potentially compromised the personal information of 7.7 million individuals.

Labcorp is a medical laboratory that provides testing services for healthcare providers, and AMCA was a third-party agency that collected unpaid patient balances.

Labcorp has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $35 million class action settlement to resolve the allegations.

Under the terms of the Labcorp settlement, class members can receive either out-of-pocket loss compensation or an alternative cash payment.

Class members who experienced out-of-pocket losses as a result of the Labcorp data breach can receive up to $5,000 for these losses. This reimbursement covers unreimbursed identity theft expenses, medical fraud losses, professional service costs, miscellaneous expenses, credit monitoring costs and up to 10 hours of documented time spent remedying fraud or identity theft at a rate of $25 per hour. Documentation is required for these claims.

Class members who did not experience out-of-pocket losses as a result of the data breach can receive an alternative cash payment. These payments are estimated to be $50 per claimant but may be higher or lower depending on the number of claims filed.

All class members are eligible for two years of free credit monitoring services through CyEx Medical Shield Pro.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is July 27, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the Labcorp class action settlement is scheduled for Aug. 20, 2026.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Sept. 3, 2026.
