Croissant sandwich recall overview:

  • Who: Hearn Kirkwood initiated a voluntary recall for 5,895 clamshell containers of croissant sandwiches sold under the Food Unlimited, Jack & Olive and Sprig & Sprout brands.
  • Why: The company recalled the croissant sandwiches over a failure to disclose the presence of allergens milk and soy as ingredients.
  • Where: The recalled croissant sandwiches were distributed to Washington, D.C., and 14 states.

Hearn Kirkwood issued a voluntary recall for 5,895 clamshell containers of croissant sandwich products due to a failure to disclose the presence of soy and milk allergens.

The recall, which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration published Nov. 7, involves croissant sandwiches distributed to Washington, D.C., and 14 states across the Midwest and East Coast.

Maryland-based Hearn Kirkwood advised consumers with allergies or sensitivities to soy or milk to discard the recalled croissant sandwiches.

People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to these allergens run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the croissant sandwich recall states.

The recall involves various croissant sandwiches from Food Unlimited, Jack & Olive and Sprig & Sprout with use-by dates of Oct. 27 through Nov. 8, 2023, according to the recall.

No illnesses reported in connection with croissant sandwich recall, notice says

Hearn Kirkwood says no illnesses have been reported in connection with the croissant sandwich recall and no other products the company distributes are being recalled.

The company ultimately initiated the recall after an ingredient supplier for Hearn Kirkwood failed to notify the company that its ingredient formulation for the recalled croissant sandwiches changed, according to the recall notice.

This led to products being sent to customers without properly identifying the allergens of soy and milk,” the croissant sandwich recall states.

In another sandwich-related recall, Fresh Ideation Food Group recalled more than 400 products, including sandwiches, in February over concerns they were contaminated with listeria monocytogenes
