Michaels tassel keychain mobile power bankThe U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that Michaels has recalled its Bead Landing tassel keychain mobile power banks over potential fire and burn hazards.

The CPSC explains that the device possesses a lithium ion battery used for charging devices. Reportedly, the battery can overheat, which poses a fire and burn risk.

The recall was implemented on Oct. 29, 2019, after Michaels received two reports of the power banks overheating when charging, and as a result, catching on fire. No injuries have been reported in connection with the alleged defect.

The CPSC explains that the Bead Landing tassel keychain mobile power banks are used to charge smartphones and other devices. They have USB and micro USB charging cables, and lighting adapters. They measure around 7 inches long by 1.5 inches wide.

Reportedly, only the keychain in black, cream, iridescent blue, and blush pink are included in the recall, and only those with the following SKU numbers and UPC codes.

  • Cream power banks: 545930, 191518582550
  • Blush pink power banks: 545931, 191518582567
  • Iridescent blue power banks: 545932, 191518582574

The devices were sold between March 2018 and April 2019 for around $20, at Michales stores around the country. They were made in China, and were imported by Michaels Stores Procurement Co. Inc., a subsidiary of The Michaels Companies Inc., of Irving, Texas.

The number for the Bead Landing tassel keychain mobile power banks recall is 20-013.

Customers who purchased one of the 14,000 affected mobile power banks are advised to stop using the keychains immediately, and to return them to any Michaels store, where they can receive a full refund.
