Grimmway Farms has issued a voluntary recall of a number of its baby carrots and shredded carrots due to risks of Salmonella contamination.
In the Salmonella recall notice posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website, Grimmway Farms said to date, no illnesses had been linked to the recalled carrot products, which include select Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Grimmway Farms, and O Organics brand baby, shredded, and peeled carrot products.
Grimmway Farms President and CEO Jeff Huckaby said that the Salmonella recall was initiated as a result of a routine, internal company test.
“The health of our customers and the integrity of our products are our highest priorities, and we will continue to monitor and communicate as additional information is available.”
The recalled products include:

According to the carrots recall notice, Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
On top of the retail products that were recalled, Grimmway Farms recalled certain shredded carrots and chopped carrots that were sold to food manufacturers and food service distributors, the notice said.
All affected food manufacturers, food service distributors, and retail customers have been notified with much of the product having been recaptured before being available for consumption, it added.
Grimmway Farms is urging consumers not to eat any of the recalled products, and is asking them to destroy or discard it. Consumers with questions may contact the customer services desk at 1-800-301-3101, M-F, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. ET, or visit Grimmway Farms’ website.
