Wiring problems have led to the recall of 2009 through 2015 Toyota Venza SUVs after concerns that the airbags may not deploy in the vehicles.
The recall will begin May 31 and was issued after more than 50 warranty reports of damage to wiring in driver-side doors. Wires in the door may rub against a grommet, rendering the airbag sensor inoperable, says Consumer Reports. The damage may present a vehicle safety risk – failure of the side and curtain airbags in the event of a collision, according to Consumer Reports.
All Toyota Venza SUVs from model years 2009 through 2015 are included in the recall – a total of 279,040 vehicles, according to a notice by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In addition to affecting the airbags, the problem may also cause a warning light to appear on the dashboard.
Owners and lessees can take their recalled Toyota Venza SUVs to a dealer for a free inspection and repair. Consumers who have already paid for the repair will be reimbursed, according to Toyota.
Owners with questions may contact Toyota customer service at 800-331-4331.
Airbag Recalls
While the reasons behind this Toyota Venza recall are different, the part involved has become a commonly cited vehicle safety defect – the airbag. The most notorious airbag recall concerns Takata.
Vehicles from 19 different automotive makers spanning over 10 years have been included in the Takata airbag recalls. The NHTSA reports that approximately 67 million airbags are included in the recalls and that number continues to grow with more than 150,000 vehicles recalled by Ford due to Takata defects.
Consumers can check to see if their vehicles have been recalled for a safety defect by visiting the NHTSA website and entering their 17-digit vehicle identification number.

We were in a serious car accident in our 2013 Toyota Venza on June 13th. Even though the front of our car was severely damaged, the air bags did not deploy. We received the recall notice 2 days later. Our car was a total loss. We had no opportunity to get the recall repair.
